How To Add The Facebook Pixel To ClickFunnels

How To Add The Facebook Pixel To ClickFunnels

I’ve used my fair share of landing page and funnel building software over the years, but none is better than ClickFunnels.

One of the main reasons I love it, is how well it integrates with Facebook advertising. When I’m running a Facebook ad campaign, collecting leads, for example, I need to know I’m backed up by some great software.

Getting your Facebook pixel installed onto your site is vital. If you don’t do it, you’re leaving money on the table.

Why You Need To Install The Facebook Pixel On Your ClickFunnels

Installing the pixel allows you to do three things:

1. Track conversions

If you’re sending traffic to a landing page, or to your website, you want to be able to track what they’re doing, right?

You’re gonna want to know if your ads are effective or not.

Are people taking the action you want them to take when you send them to your site?

The Facebook pixel allows you to monitor all of that, so you can see whether your ads are performing well or not.

In this example, we can see that by retargeting our website traffic, we’re acquiring 14-day free trial sign ups at $19.66 each. Without the pixel, we wouldn’t be able to see the fact we’ve had those 127 sign ups as result of this ad.

2. Build retargeting audiences

If someone comes to your website (whether that’s through Facebook or another source, such as Google), the pixel ‘fires’ and tracks them.

You can then go into Facebook and create what’s called a custom audience based on the people that visited your site.

For example, if someone visits your landing page, but doesn’t sign up, you can retarget them with an ad inviting them to come back. Or if someone downloads a free lead magnet, but doesn’t purchase your upsell, you can serve them ads with the upsell offer.

3. Optimise your Facebook campaigns

If you’re running an ad campaign that’s going out to an audience of 1 million people, Facebook has to try and find the people within that 1 million that are most likely to convert/take the action you want them to take (whether that’s engaging with your page, clicking on your ad or converting on a specific offer).

Without the pixel, Facebook has less of an idea on who to serve that ad to, so it’s going to serve the ad to anyone within that 1 million.

With the pixel, it can see what type of person is converting best and therefore serve your ad to more people like that.

To install the Facebook Pixel to your ClickFunnels funnel, simply follow these steps:

Head Over To Your Facebook Ad Account:

1. Click Ads Manager Top Left > All Tools

2. Click on Pixels

3. Select your Pixel

4. Click on set up > manually install code yourself

5. Copy the long code

Once you’ve done that…

Login To Your ClickFunnels Account And:

1. Select the funnel you’d like to use

2. Go to the first funnel step (we want to install the code on every single funnel step)

3. Click on edit page

4. Then go to ‘settings’, then ‘tracking code’

5. Paste the pixel code in there

Or you can follow the steps in this video.

We want to repeat that process for each funnel step, but here’s where things change a little. We need to tell Facebook what conversions to track. (Lead magnet download, sales, etc.)

We do that by using one of two methods:

1. Using Custom Conversions

2. Using Standard Events

For whatever reason, I’ve always found standard events a better way to track conversions when using ClickFunnels. Custom Conversions don’t work as well.

When we’re posting the pixel code into the funnel steps, we want to add an extra line of code on the pages that mark a conversion (typically the thank you, or confirmation page).

On Facebook, when you’re copying the Facebook pixel code, click on ‘add your events’. The option to add to the standard pixel code will appear.

For example, if you’re sending people from Facebook to a funnel for a free ebook, on the thank you page, you could use the standard event ‘Lead’. You can actually rename these standard events (by editing the code) to whatever you like, such as ‘eBook Download’.

Your code should look something like this:

You can then use a free tool called ‘Pixel Helper‘ to check it’s all set up properly.

It says 17 comments but I can only see two comments. I ended on which planet you are based and if you have ever heard of privacy and data protection. While every project is pointing towards abuse of data by Facebook you are creating more invasive tools. Really?!

Great post, how does pixel tracking sit with GDPR?

Great article Gavin! I usually use custom events on ClickFunnels, just so that a different event is firing on each funnel (if you have a few funnels per Facebook pixel). People often make the mistake of adding pixel in the funnel settings head tracking code instead of adding the code to each page. Using the URL custom conversion on ClickFunnels doesn’t work very well because ClickFunnels URLs are dynamic (this is how you can create a split test variation) - so this is why implementing the actual code on each page is important. But I totally agree with using ClickFunnels and fb ads - if done correctly, it is super effective. Retargeting and reporting is robust and reliable.
