I was always wondering whether people have the same common problem to see a change from a different perspective. We have come across this discussion many times, there were many books published, and many blogs are written. Even though it has changed the life of many people around the world but still there is a massive gap in adaption.
We will try to explore, why so many of us have difficulty dealing with change even though we know it is good for us.
"The research study says that even though people are more aware and knowledgeable about what is good or bad for them but they still fail to adopt the change"
Change has a broad perspective and has its own characteristics. The impact due change whether it is positive or negative can vary from person to person. I am limiting this article to the changes that are good for us and well known to everyone.
Now, The question of the millennium!!!
What is stopping us to do the things that are even good for us and something that we know from the core?
For example, everyone knows about the healthy lifestyle that is required for long and healthy life and it definitely requires a lot of discipline in your day-to-day routine.
In order to achieve a healthy life, you need a big change. You have to start waking up early, have to drink a lot of water, have to do Yoga\Mediation and other forms of exercise to maintain your body and mind. You also have to add a lot of raw vegetables to your daily meal and has to increase your fruit intake, you also have to practice intermittent fasting and let go of the sugar intake, and so on.
It looks very perfect change and fruitful but How many people do it?
This is exactly the same thing I wanted to relate with the adaption, The rate of adaption to the change is very low as compared to the availability of information and awareness among all of us.
I will ask the same question again, "what is stopping us from changing?
And the answer is very simple?“It’s Our Own Mind”
Let me explain to you with a simple example and exercise that will open your thought process in a different direction and add up the flavor of reality, the best part of this exercise is that, you will also get something in return while following it.
Is it something exciting, Isn’t it?
Let’s begin, It’s nothing but our?Mind?that is in the comfort zone and does not want to come out from it. In other words, It will not allow you to take anything that is new for him else he has to work hard to adjust himself to what he\she is not aware and comfortable with it.
It is a very similar situation where you want to speed up your reading skill and started reading a sentence at double or triple speed and every time you do it, your mind will start telling you, hold on!!!
this is not you, you are a slow reader, in this speed, you will not be able to understand anything.
The mind will start tricking you and once you start believing its reasoning then you will never be able to change yourselves and in this case your speed. But what, if you will not listen to him, what will happen?
Even though Mind has many bad things but the good part is that he is highly adaptable, he will resist it for some time but once he knows you are not giving up then it will start adjusting to the situation(in this case fast reading).
I will suggest, you experience it on your own. Take any of the book or content that is very simple or maybe you can start some book that you already read it. Start reading it fast from your usual speed. Use the Stopwatch to calculate your speed first, just read 10 lines and figure out your current speed with average. how many words you have finished in what time and calculate your average reading speed.

In general, The average speed of a person falls between 125-200 words in a min so you can always cross-check your average speed with this reference.
Now, What do you have to do next?
Start reading it at triple speed even though you will not be able to understand it.
Sounds difficult!!!
No, it is not, maybe your mind is telling you because it is afraid of change. Isn’t it?
Let’s try it again with a different approach now, divide your single line into 2 chunks and start moving your eyes on chunks only 2 times from left to right, do not read word by word and that is the real trick here.
Since our childhood and during our education journey we trained our mind to learn word by word hence our mind was trained for it and it is obvious for it to follow the word over the word, once you start asking him to read it in chunks it will resist, it will tell you that, I am getting tired, it is not happening, I am not able to understand anything and try to slow you down to your usual speed but this time you will not allow him to win over you, what’s your ultimate goal here?“become a fast reader”?right.
If your ultimate goal is to read content in a faster way so that you can save a lot of time and will be able to collect more information and process it faster than usual then you have to do this and believe me after 7 days of practice you will see the magic.
You can start practicing this 30 Min daily and continue for 7 days and you won’t believe in the progress.
Once you start reading it in your triple speed and in chunks you will feel a little bit awkward because it was not your style, after a few attempts and practices your mind will start absorbing phrases and slowly it will start making sense of them.
You can always use a pencil to have better focus, it will also help you to control your thought to not run away and stick with the content and visualize it whatever you are reading
How to Become a Fast Reader:
Note: You can divide the line into one or two chunks based on your comfort. try not to make any logical sense while starting your journey to divide the line into chunks and after some time your eyes will start making a logical stop or extract the phrases from lines automatically once adjusted with the process.
Please post your comment if it is helping, it is one of the well-known mind exercises and even I have experienced it on my own and had wonderful results.
The idea is to make yourself better than you were before, your competition is with yourselves and not with others. Got it!
If you are able to beat your Mind one time then it will be easy for you to beat him up again and again, once you are good at that, you certainly see the change in yourselves and you will become a better person and a great human being!!!
In my next blog, I will write more about the different categories of people and their mindsets toward adapting to change. Once you will be able to categorize them then you only need the right tool and strategy to handle them categorically.
You are reading this article means you know the power of change and you are ready to adapt to it. Once you change your mindset, your mind becomes adaptive to change.
You can start sharing your experience with people around you so that they can also take benefit from it unless it is too late in the Game!!!
