In a couple of months, one word you will hear repeatedly is "goals." Certainly, as we approach the end of the year, it's valuable to be introspective and consider our goals for the upcoming year. However, the issue lies in treating goal contemplation as a mere annual occasion or a yearly checkup.
Reflecting on, pursuing, and reevaluating goals needs to be a regular practice.
In this episode:
Goals are one of the six drivers of your personal brand, alongside values, passions, superpowers, differentiators and purpose. Think of your goals as the trusty compass guiding your brand's journey. They're like the GPS for your aspirations, making sure you're always on track. Without goals, your brand simply moves along with inertia and external forces, occasionally aligning with your interests... and sometimes not.
Defining your goals and regularly reminding yourself of them is essential to aligning your actions with your aspirations. Having goals simplifies life and serves as a criterion for decision-making. It clarifies what to decline and, more importantly, what to wholeheartedly embrace. When faced with opportunities, you can easily assess:
Will this contribute to achieving my goals, or will it divert me from pursuing them?
Thanks to a part of your brain known as the reticular activating system (RAS), you possess a cluster of neurons capable of nudging you toward your goals.
Your RAS plays a pivotal role in regulating wakefulness, alertness, and attention. It filters and prioritizes sensory information, determining the stimuli that warrant focus and those that are disregarded.

Now, imagine tweaking your RAS to be in perfect harmony with your brand's unique tune and your career aspirations.
Reflecting on powerful questions is one of the best ways to uncover your personal brand. Watch this one-minute video to identify one of your your goals.
My challenge for you
Write down your goals and keep them clearly visible on your office wall or computer screen saver. Pare it down to no more than three goals.
Every time you glance at those words, you’re reminding your RAS to notice and prioritize the actions and information that will help you fulfill those ambitions.

1 年Good read, William. This is essentially getting out of the hamster wheel of life (reactionary) and being more intentional about our actions and why.
