The Holidays are coming up, and we know that during this time people start thinking about how they can start the new year strong. But let’s clarify what a goal means because goals can be overwhelming and frustrating.?
Goal setting is a Dream with a Deadline
Achieving your dreams doesn't have to be a difficult process. In fact, it can become easier with some goal-based approaches. Goal setting is a process in which you divide your dream into small goals and then work towards achieving them over time. Meeting deadlines, being accountable for what you say you're going to do, and making sure that everything is written down are all important parts of this process. Using these three strategies in tandem will help you get closer and closer to achieving your ultimate goal: living out the life of your dreams!
Goal Motivation
To begin, you must first determine your objective and why you are pursuing it. You don't have to be a runner to want to run a half marathon, for example. Why? Why do you want to run a half marathon? Do you intend on becoming a runner, or are you doing it to show yourself that you can accomplish it? When you're not up for it, ask yourself why you're doing it. When you're able to figure that out, it becomes quite personal. It becomes particular to your life story and life experience. This is what you want to keep you going.
Write on Paper
Once you've sorted through your goal in your mind, make a note of it. You want to picture your goal. To better comprehend your purpose, answer the questions below. What is the significance of this ambition to me? How will it appear? What am I going to think when I'm finished with it? How will it feel not to be inspired??
Ways to Visualize your Dream?
You want to see the whole process from beginning to end, including the good, the bad, and everything in between. You don't want to just focus on the positive aspects because there will be difficult times ahead of you.
?Communicate?
Now that you've completed all of the personal work, it's time to communicate. Many of us are so afraid to declare, "I have this great ambition". We are concerned with what others may think, and we are afraid of being judged for our dreams. As a result, pick your audience carefully.? Choose someone else whom you can tell and who will be your cheerleader, but also someone who will hold you accountable and ask, "How are you going to do this?"
Break It Down?
If you're attempting to run a half marathon, for example, you'll need to prepare in advance. So let's say we're talking about training for a half marathon. To realize this objective/dream, we must break it down into smaller bits that are doable.
One big goal can be hard, how do you eat an elephant??
Breaking down a goal into small, manageable parts might make it feel less daunting and, depending on the aim, might extend to months of effort. This is something that some individuals overlook, having good goals and telling others that they intend to run a marathon, but then life happens, your children need you, or family, etc.! You lose sight of your objective and a long list of unfinished objectives/ aspirations begins to build up.
Tip: Schedule your first step, mark it on the calendar, set a timer to go off, so that you can stay on track to starting the process and steps that you have set for yourself to achieve your goal.?
Book Recommendation: Confidence Code?
Consistency?
Don't change for anybody but yourself. Hold to your principles and don't let other people's opinions get you down. Don't start the bad self-talk. Tell yourself, "I'm off track; there'll be another day." Examine why you weren't able to do it; maybe the time. Pivot, change and adapt. But stay consistent and don’t give up. This goes back to seeing what drives you.
Resilience?
Have patience, compassion, and don't give up. Once you make a promise to yourself and comprehend the significance of making a decision and maintaining it. You'll begin to feel a lot more assured. It links directly to your brain to show you that you can do it. You'll begin to trust yourself more and more. You start to change gradually as you form these new routines. Back to the example of running a marathon, you have to remember it takes training, consistency, a new mindset. A lot of the time, mindset work is more difficult than the actual task.
Mindset is a lot more important than that promise to yourself, It’s the highway to your brain to rewire it.
Celebrate
Don't underestimate the importance of celebrating. It's fantastic for your body and mind to rejoice in your progress. It might simply be waking up a little earlier or having more energy. It enables you to enjoy the trip more and gives you reasons to keep going when you're ready to quit. Gratitude is a lot more powerful than negativity.
Achieving your dream can seem like an insurmountable task. However, when you break it down into tiny steps and take the time to do what is necessary in order to achieve them, you will be on your way towards achieving any goal or dream that comes to mind. Remember: set a timer for each step of the process so as not to lose sight of your progress; stay consistent with every aspect of life (i.e., work, friends, and family); have grace and compassion--don't give up! Celebrate each step of the process, no matter how small it may be. By doing so, you will be well on your way towards achieving any goal or dream that you think of.?
