We have won the lottery!!!!!
Yep, that's right. being English pretty much means we have already won the lottery in life.
But I never used to think this. You see not so long ago things were not as rosy as they seem today.
In 2010 I was a single mum, penniless, with no bed to sleep on or sofa to sit on. I was on housing benefit with two children under the age of 8 and my future did not look bright.
I had just come out of a toxic relationship and found myself in a very precarious position. With two young children reliant on me I couldn't get a full-time job, and I was fragile and sad with very little self-esteem or enthusiasm for anything.
I had no idea how I was going to change my situation until one day I decided to seek out a solution to the predicament I was in.
I used my friend's laptop and typed into Amazon “Books on happinessâ€.
This moment was a pivotal moment that changed my life.
I found a book called 7 Steps To Happiness (It may have been 9 I can’t quite remember). This book was a simple book with simple concepts.
Despite these concepts being simple they were profound. They included:
>> Be grateful for what you have
>> Give to charity
>> Help other people
In fact, the majority of the steps were all about helping others. And this is where the shift in my life happened. I knew that if I was ever going to get out of my current situation I needed to help more people and bring value to the world.
Helping and changing other people's lives would then by default change mine.
This pivotal moment is what led me to study relentlessly “the mindâ€, and master my own mindset so that I could achieve anything I wanted to achieve.
By opening my mindset up to the concept that anything is possible, and what the mind can conceive the person can achieve, my life drastically changed for the better.
Fast forward 12 years and I have a very successful business, a fantastic team that supports my business, and a happy family and personal life.
This journey has not been easy though. Mastering one's mind is a constant battle and needs working on every day.
From the moment I decided to change my life for the better I have had to battle with inner demons telling me I am not good enough, young enough, male enough, experienced enough, etc and I have relied on certain techniques to help me overcome the fear that could have held me back.
One of the techniques is asking myself questions to make sure that my mind is not playing tricks on me.
Everytime I feel resistance to doing something and I come up with a “reason†I CAN'T do something I ask myself:
?? Is this FACT or just your opinion?

?? Could you be wrong?
?? Why are you so certain that your conclusion is right?
?? What assumptions are you making?
?? What evidence is there to support your thinking?
?? What evidence is there to dispute your thinking?
?? What is the worst that can happen?
?? Could you cope with the worst-case scenario?
?? How does this negative thinking really serve you?
?? Is this negative thinking holding you back, or helping you?
?? What would be the best that would happen if you do/say this?
?? What will be the likeliest thing to happen?
?? What will you do now you understand your thoughts better?
These questions are questions I urge you to use every time you feel resistant to doing something that will change your life for the better.
You see we have already won the lottery by being British. Most of you reading this are more privileged than others of the world can ever imagine.
Even on housing benefit I was richer than so many people, despite feeling I had nothing.
We owe it to those less fortunate than ourselves to be the best we can be and to give more value than we currently do. The more value we bring to the world the more we can make it a better place.
But we cannot bring value if we are scared. If we live in fear we play small. If we play small we do not leverage the fact that we have already won the lottery.
So next time you decide not to do something because of fear, use the questions above to get clarity and face the fear and master your mind.
Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you are right. So just change your thinking. You CAN do anything you want in life. I am living proof of it.
Master your mind and the rest of your life will be the best it can be.
