This is my first post on linked in but well worth sharing for all those in the PR & Marketing industry. Our new Marketing expert at Sysomos weighs in on the popular debate on what is influence , the accuracy of static influence and how we measure influence at Sysomos.
He highlights the importance of segmenting influencers for brands to ensure they are both contextual and relevant to drive long term advocacy. Interested in hearing thought on this!

9 年My main issue(s) with Klout is that the score is relatively easy to manipulate. Your hard work at generating a respectable target number can also be completely destroyed by external factors which are outside of your control. While the score is an OK way of understanding your social influence, I don't believe it has any real business value. That score does not tell me how many new visits my social activity has generated, or how much in sales we've made. For me, it's about impressions, engagement, traffic and the like. Hard data that can be logged, recorded, analysed and improved upon.

9 年The issue with Klout is that it's easy to manipulate and can be 'damaged' by external factors outside of your control. While the score is an OK way of understanding your social influence, it has no real business value. I prefer to look at real data like impressions, engagement, web-traffic.

9 年Thanks for the input Jeremy Waite and its good to hear this Sean Paul Shanor I work with alot of agencies who see posts like https://www.brandrepublic.com/article/1358473/top-50-uk-marketing-advertising-klout-influencers-social-media. As the top influencers here appear to have a high level of followers and reach socially they will ask why they might not come up in their searches. This is why I like the post, it focuses of the importance of high quality contextual outreach as oppose to high quantity followers. However the concern is this approach doesn't always coincide with the immediate metrics they wish to display to their management.
