*How a 14 yrs old girl’s Birthday wish raised $50,000 for healthcare workers in 2 days*
As a parent, you feel blessed when your daughter comes and ask you, Dad can I dedicate my this year’s Birthday to healthcare workers who are putting their lives at risk to save ours. Yes that’s what Shreya did. She requested me to donate all the money which we were planning to spend on her 14th Birthday. In feb, we were planning a big party for her friends and family members but COVID 19 has ruined all the fun. We were thinking she will be very disappointed but I was really surprised and also proud when she came to me with her request. Not only had that she decided to donate all the gifts which she will be receiving on her birthday from friends and family members. She encouraged us to organize a fundraiser to support the healthcare and frontline workers in Peel. We start the mission with a goal of raising $25,000 by contributing $5,000 from our side which we were planning to spend on her birthday party. When we started the fundraiser on April 21st at 9 AM, the goal of $25,000 was achieved in an hour . This all could have been possible with generous support of our close friends, family members, Save Max and Workeefy team. This encouraged us to raise the target to $50,000. We have raised $37,000 in first day and achieved the goal of $50,000 in 2 days only.
Now we are targeting to raise $100,000 which will be used to support various organizations like William Osler Health System Foundation, Trillium Health Partners for their need of PPE and any other requirements. We will also try to support other organizations which are helping people by providing them nonperishable and essential food items.
When I spoke to my friends, business associates, political leaders and other dignitaries everyone was so supportive and they all came forward to spread the message to general public. This all helped us to raise the spirit and spread a positive message across.
I am so excited to see the overall response for the campaign and I am sure this campaign will prove silver lining in black clouds of COVID-19. Any problem can be handled if we have the inner strength and positivity. I have seen people fighting with cancer with their will power and internal strength to survive , then why can’t we fight this challenge with our positivity .Our objective was to create some vibrancy among our friends , family members and community which we have successfully achieved.
I would like to give the credit for this wonderful initiative to our lovely Shreya who gave a new direction to this celebration and will salute to her courage to think for others and dedicate her birthday to Frontline and health care workers.
I would also like to extend my thanks to all the political leaders , businesses , friend and family members who came forward for this noble cause and strengthen us to raise the funds for a noble cause .
