What is the point when the oceans are Earth’s life support and require our urgent help?

  • "50 to 70 % of our oxygen comes from the ocean. That’s more than all of the world’s rainforests combined.
  • The oceans are the #1 source of protein for more than a billion people.
  • The oceans regulate our climate, absorb carbon dioxide, hold 97% of Earth’s water, and support the greatest abundance of life on our planet.
  • More than 60% of the world’s population lives on or near the coast. The oceans provides a livelihood, recreation, beauty, wonder, and untapped scientific discovery, leading to new medications, foods, and advanced technologies.

Everyone, everywhere depends on healthy oceans". oneworldoneocean.com

We need to inspire the next generation of scientists and decision makers to re-capture the spirit of Darwin – his inquisitiveness, his questioning, and his analysing – to help the brightest young minds in the next generation to follow in his footsteps. We must do more to enable them to understand what is happening to the environment across our ailing planet; and to show them how to use Darwin’s approach to science, to find solutions. We must find new ways of using science to tackle the burgeoning environmental problems across our globe – increased salinity and sea temperatures, plastics pollution, silt erosion through deforestation and climate change are just some of a catalogue of issues facing us. None were known – or even existed – in Darwin’s time.

Beagle Quest will empower young people, the custodians of our planet, with the knowledge and creativity to find solutions to some of the world’s greatest environmental challenges alongside some of the world's best science mentors. Put simply, we will recreate the 1831 voyage of HMS Beagle, the ship that carried the young Charles Darwin around the world on the famous voyage that would raise crucial questions in his mind - questions that led to the formation of one of the greatest ideas in the history of science. Natural selection.

Replicating Darwin's voyage gives us a vehicle to bring practical, tangible experiences of science to international media projects and integrated educational opportunities. Public outreach of science is, today, a major component of all of modern-day science research, and this voyage will bring together science outreach opportunities, education and media projects in an exciting, visually stunning experience with a global presence.

Why not leave a real corporate legacy? A unique opportunity to make a difference - a legacy which is positive, relevant and lasting for the world.
