The 2024 state exams scores are now official. They will be posted on the District's website and on Texas Education Agency's website. We are still analyzing the voluminous amount of data, but here are the headlines:
- Our students and teachers did great!
- The District improved achievement in 18 of the 20 exams while the State decreased in most exams.
- While the District overall improved, the 85 "NES" schools that underwent wholescale, systemic reform did even better. Indeed, the overall academic increase in grades 3 through 8 in both reading and math is likely the highest one-year increase of any urban Texas district in the history of the state exam.
- No other large district in Texas came close to HISD's overall academic improvement.
- Our subgroups of students narrowed the achievement gaps by several percentage points.
- HISD is still behind in academic proficiency, but we are narrowing the gap with the State average.
- One set of data does not make a trend, but we are beginning to see a trend: our middle-of-the-year NWEA MAP data showed strong progress as did our NWEA end-of-year scores (which we will report out at the end of June).
- We have a long way to go, but the ship has been righted, and we are already moving toward Destination 2035.
Please join us in the way that you are able to congratulate our students and to thank our teachers and principals for rising to the level of expectation.

Are you an educational administrator who wants a proven approach for producing breakthroughs in your instructional leadership time, student results and personal satisfaction?
