Housing Justice

When my son returns from his Air Force commission, I want to look him in the eyes, thank him for his service, tell him how proud we are, and welcome him to our community.

Thank you for considering the proposal for a three-story permanent supportive housing facility to accommodate individuals with disabilities and specifically target local veterans at 1519 S. Arlington Heights Road. This project is not just about building a structure; it’s about creating a community that upholds the values enshrined in our Constitution—the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for every individual.

Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and we must ensure that they have access to stable housing and the support services they need to thrive. This facility will provide more than just a roof over their heads; it will offer a foundation for rebuilding lives, fostering dignity, and ensuring no veteran is left behind.

The need for this facility is critical. Many veterans and individuals with disabilities face significant barriers to stable housing, including economic challenges, and the lack of accessible services. It is no one's fault! By creating a supportive environment where housing is paired with essential services—such as mental health care, job training, and social support—we can address these barriers holistically, offering residents a real chance to rebuild their lives.

But this project is also about something larger: it’s about justice. As our understanding of justice evolves, we recognize that it must include everyone, particularly those who have been marginalized. Providing this housing facility is a tangible way to honor the individual rights guaranteed by our Constitution, ensuring that all members of our community, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to live with dignity and respect.

This facility will provide much-needed housing and be a beacon of our commitment to justice and equality. It is a declaration that in our community of Arlington Heights, we support our veterans, honor the rights of individuals with disabilities, and strive to create a society where EVERYONE has the opportunity to succeed. Your support for this project is not just an investment in bricks and mortar—it is an investment in the values that define us as a community and nation.

Honoring the dedication and sacrifice of our veterans by providing a new home—certainly a heartfelt recognition for those who risk so much, even their lives, to protect our freedom. Please extend my deepest gratitude to your son, Stephen, for his service. .

This looks like a very beautiful project. I love the holistic vision of reincorporating veterans into a community where they can heal and be supported. How can I help you in your efforts?
