Housing Association Case Study
EK Specialist Surveys
Providing drone, thermal, Rope Access, & Leak Tracing specialist surveys & imaging since 2013 #SeeTheWholePicture
EK Specialist Surveys were instructed by a prominent Housing Association to undertake drone and thermal surveys to assess and report on the roofs of 180 residential homes and over 35 flat roof blocks within their portfolio. These surveys were planned and undertaken across an 8 week period including undertaking the thermal surveys after sunset.
??
By using our drone service all elements of the buildings’ roofs were recorded which delivered invaluable and high-quality data that accurately illustrated the condition of the roofs without causing disruption to the residents.? All of the drone surveys were accompanied with a roof condition report produced by our team at EK London.??
The thermal surveys, targeting blocks with flat roofs, were used to specifically identify areas likely to be experiencing water ingress; even where these were not yet being experienced by the residents. Thus enabling proactive remedial action by our client.
As with any complex operation, our team faced several challenges during the programme of the surveys. These included:?
Managing and controlling the operational areas, maintaining visual line of sight (VLOS) of the drone and avoiding natural hazards such as trees & seagulls during nesting season.?
The location of many of the surveys fell within Rochesters Airport airspace. This required additional permissions from Air Traffic Control before the operation could take place each day.?
Some of the surveys were also in close proximity to Rochester prison so required liaising with the prison on the days these surveys took place.
Notifying all the residents was another challenge which the client kindly helped with.?
Our team was able to overcome these obstacles through meticulous planning and the expertise of our highly experienced staff.
