Housing 2024: That's a wrap??

You are undoubtedly aware by now that last week, Manchester hosted the biggest housing event of the year! We introduced our newest member, #SwitcheeMitchee to the world and participated in insightful panels and workshops. Our stand was a hub of engaging conversations, and our Home in the Dome event was a standout. The feedback says it all!

We want to share some truly incredible highlights with you! Let's go!!!

You got to meet Mitchee, our resident engagement van!

Not only was this a great way for Switchee to introduce Mitchee to the world and provide all the attendees with a breakfast boost, we also had the opportunity to show attendees inside Mitchee and explain how we aim to use the van to enhance resident engagement.?

There were a lot of "Wow's" when attendees entered the van to have a chat!

Be sure to tag #SwitcheeMitchee on LinkedIn or X if you see him in your area; he does love the camera

What is Mitchee's mission? Take a look below ??

"It's all about enabling smart, efficient, and healthy homes." Jess Prevost , Marketing Director at Switchee

Switchee chaired a panel discussing how housing providers can support their residents during a cost-of-living crisis!

Tom Robins , CEO of Switchee, was joined on stage alongside éadaoin Kelly , Senior Community Partnership Manager at The Guinness Partnership; Matt Foreman , Executive Director of Customer Service at L&Q; and Rosie Longden , Head of Community Investment at Great Places Housing Group.

Tom began the session by outlining the objective of identifying possible ways to improve the lives of residents. He highlighted Switchee 's real-time fuel poverty index and stressed how Switchee leverages data from UK houses to inform smarter decisions. He included how residents have more energy debt despite the fact that the previous winter was milder. Tom then discussed the dangers of low-heat practices, including a rise in mould, stressing the necessity of focused resident assistance.

Eadaoin Kelly of The Guinness Partnership highlighted their efforts to combat food insecurity in the UK, Eadaoin also shared alarming statistics that 15% of households, including 3 million children, face this issue.

Rosie Longden from Great Places Housing Group discussed economic inclusion strategies across 25,000 homes in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, and South Yorkshire, aiming for sustainable solutions over charity-based responses.

People don’t want charity they want dignity

Matt Foreman at L&Q discussed the growing impact of energy costs and fuel poverty, with 4 in 10 households facing heat or eat decisions in 2022, rising to 6 in 10 in 2023. Despite efforts in energy efficiency retrofitting, L&Q faces a £2.3 billion funding shortfall. He emphasised their £7 million annual investment in community support through the foundation, covering employability, financial advice, and essential services, amid the challenges of shrinking public funds.

Here is some of the feedback we had from this session ??

Switchee hosted an insightful workshop on Awaab's Law: Bringing your residents on the journey with you

The workshop hosted by Tom Robins and Kate Roberts focused on Awaab's Law and the importance of co-creation. Tom and Kate emphasised the need for proactive approaches and highlighted the critical responsibility of knowing tenants and maintaining quality data to eliminate stigma and wrongful evictions.

The workshop's main goal was to get participants talking together about approaches and solutions, including tenant engagement, building trust through tangible results, and realising the significant advantages of active participation. Improving communication with vulnerable tenants, properly analysing data, and setting clear expectations for all parties were among the main problems that still have to be overcome.

The key takeaway was that co-creation requires active participation from both residents and housing providers.

Never assume your tenants don't want to be involved, Kate Roberts, Customer Success Director

Here is a great piece of feedback we got from the workshop??

One of the best housing event's I've attended - and that's a lot over the years. The conversations as well as general buzz in Manchester over the week was phenomenal. But overall seeing so many people who's joint mission and values are all aligned, is something quite humbling.
