House approves extradition agreements

? Parliament also approves loan and cooperation accords

ADDIS ABABA – House of Peoples’ Representatives yesterday approved Ethiopia’s extradition agreements with Djibouti and Rwanda to extradite people who are being suspected of committing crime under the domain of their territories.

The House, in its 17th regular meeting, approved Ethiopia’s two extradition agreements with Djibouti and Rwanda to work cooperatively in criminal issues and to deport individuals suspected of committing crime in the three countries with a view to ensuring peace and tranquility in the region in general and specifically under their mandate.

The House also approved a Proclamation on the African Union Flag, Anthem and African Day which declares the flying of the flag of the African Union (AU) along with the national flag, and singing of union’s anthem in a simultaneous fashion. It also declared that the African Day is annually commemorated.

Similarly, the House approved investment expansion and protection agreement between Ethiopia and Qatar, loan agreements between Ethiopia and International Development Association for the implementation of dual engagements: the desert locust prevention and control project and Ethiopia’s Second Growth and Competitive Development Policy Program. This policy program is believed to help the country seek COVID-19 immediate response. UN’s International Convention on sale of goods agreement and three other proclamations are also among the endorsed schemes.

Meanwhile, the House approved the appointment of five members of Reconciliation Commission: Rev. Dereje Jemberu, Demelash Yadetie, Dr. Ezra Abate, Fatuma Hase, and Garad Kulmie Mohammed – replacing the missing members.
