Hotel Feature: Stoke by Nayland Resort, Suffolk

In a world where the need for sustainability is paramount, the hospitality industry stands at no exception with the increasing demand for more eco-conscious accommodation for travellers who want to minimise their impact on the environment.

At Classic British Hotels, we’re proud to partner with exceptional establishments dedicated to this ethos. Such as Stoke by Nayland Resort , situated in the Suffolk countryside, whose long term mission is to operate as a sustainable green enterprise.

A Legacy of Sustainability

Stoke by Nayland is a resort managed by the Peake family for three generations, and has been farming and living in the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for over 80 years now. Passionate about the environment, the Peake family own two sister companies in addition to the Stoke by Nayland resort collectively called the Boxford Group, that share a plethora of sustainability awards. But what makes Stoke by Nayland particularly special?

Green greens

The Stoke by Nayland property spans 300 acres of Dedham Vale countryside and is home to two championship golf courses. Over the past 40 years, the Peake family has planted 60,000 trees using innovative and sustainable techniques. These efforts have earned them awards such as Best Top Fruit Grower and Best Soft Fruit Grower.

In addition to their orchards, the Boxford Group operates an Anaerobic Digester Plant that produces renewable green electricity for the Stoke by Nayland Hotel, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. This plant also provides rich organic fertiliser for the golf greens and harvests rainwater for irrigation, creating a perfect circular economy.

Wildlife and Conservation

As an ‘Anglian Business Green 100 company’, Stoke by Nayland dedicates its environmental efforts to preserving and encouraging surrounding wildlife. Initiatives include creating log piles from fallen trees and managing hedges to encourage nesting sites for birds.

Sustainable Dining and Collaboration:

The resort features award-winning restaurants such as the Lakes Restaurant, offering fine dining with ingredients sourced from local Suffolk farms. Amongst many other environmental efforts, Stoke by Nayland work closely with the Environment Agency , Suffolk Wildlife Trust , Writtle and Otley Colleges, the PGA, and the European Seniors Tour to ensure best practices are maintained.

With a commitment to the environment that spans over decades, Stoke by Nayland Resort is a shining example of how award winning hospitality and sustainability can work together harmoniously - it’s one of the many reasons why we cherish our partnership with them!

Here, they’re able to continue showcasing the best of the Suffolk countryside, without costing the natural beauty they call their home.
