Hotel Feature: Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club, Edinburgh

Elegant and Timeless. Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club stands as an iconic member of the Classic British Hotel collection and is a true celebration of Scottish heritage. Here’s why…

History, Heritage & Tradition

The Dalmahoy Hotel & Country club stands as testament to Scottish heritage, with its roots dating back to the 18th century. At the heart of this sprawling estate stands a grand structure that offers a rare glimpse into the opulence of a bygone era. Constructed in the 1720s, this baronial mansion was designed by William Adam, one half of the renowned Scottish sibling architect duo William and Robet Adam, who were celebrated for their neo-classical style of architecture during this era.

Beyond its architectural excellence, you’ll also find that Dalmahoy is steeped in a history of Scottish nobility. Similar to the Maids Head Hotel, this hotel is said to have played host to some notable figures over the centuries, including that of Mary, Queen of Scots herself.

It’s All in the Details

From rich tartan fabrics to intricate wood panelling, the Dalmahoy balances the traditions of Scottish heritage with modern comforts. The use of tartan fabrics is a staple in their decor’s? finishing touches, not only providing aesthetic pleasure, but reflecting an element of Scotland that is so prevalent to its culture.

At the Dalmahoy, guests experience truly authentic Scottish ambience, making their stay in Edinburgh all the more special. This homage is not shy to just the decor, even their facilities pay tribute. Take the James Braid Bar, a space for the golfers, inspired by one of the greatest Scottish golfers of their time, James Braid. Named after this five-time winner of The Open Championship (and designer of the Dalmahoy’s golf courses), the James Braid bar is the perfect post-putt wind down.

There’s also the Pentland Restaurant, the hotel's flagship restaurant that serves up the finest Scottish fayre using local produce and even ingredients from their own estate including their ‘Dalma-honey’. In addition to traditional Scottish flavours, you’ll find the chic ambiance of the cocktail bar with a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits, and Scotland’s finest single malts, all accompanied by breathtaking panoramic views of the greens.

Golfing Legacy

One of the things that the Dalmahoy is best known for, is that it is somewhat of a golfer’s paradise. Widely considered as one of Scotland’s generating golfing destinations, this vast estate boasts two stunning championship courses sprawled across 1,000 acres of uninterrupted woodland - the East course and the West course.

As we briefly mentioned before, these golf courses were designed by the legendary James Braid, and have gone on to host major amateur and professional tournaments over the years including the Solheim Cup, and the Charles Church Seniors PGA Championships of Scotland - a true nod to what is considered one of the country’s national sports.

With its ability to beautifully embody all this Scotland, the Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is, to say the least, truly one of a kind - an extremely special and valued member of Classic British Hotels.?
