Hot Weather is a great time to read
I checked the weather for Tuesday, August 15, 2023, because that’s the day Mayhem at Sea, the third mystery/thriller novel in my Luke Ryder trilogy will be published by Rough Edges Press.
According to the forecast, Tuesday’s conditions will be hot, if not sizzling, across most of the USA with the exception of the Midwest and the far Northeast.
So, why not escape the heat with a novel to read in the shade, on the beach, or someplace cool with a fan blowing chilled air across your face? An icy drink nearby would help, too.
When you read Mayhem at Sea, you’ll see a movie in your mind. Kentucky Deputy Sheriff Luke Ryder is on a heart-stopping mission to save the lives of 5,000 passengers and crew aboard the luxury cruise ship, Sea Trek. When pirates hijack the ship—and demand a jaw-dropping ransom of $350 million—Luke finds himself in a nail-biting game of cat and mouse.
If you haven’t read the first book in the series, Death in the Holler, the e-book version will be on sale for 99 cents for a week in the near future. It was recommended in a New York Post, July 22nd article, as one of “20 action-packed books to bring on vacation this summer.”
In Death in the Holler, Kentucky Game Warden Luke Ryder is an alcoholic on the verge of losing his job. But when a Louisville gangster is found dead in rural Kentucky—on the first day of muzzle-loader hunting season—a chance for Luke to prove his worth strikes.

The second book in the series, Murder at NASA, may also pique your interest. By the year 2030, the investigation into the brutal murder of NASA Space Plane Test Manager Scarlet Hauk has grown cold. In a last-ditch effort to solve the case and give an up-and-coming agent experience, the FBI assigns Agent Rita Reynolds with the impossible—find a lead.
To assist in her investigation, Rita enlists the help of Kentucky Deputy Sheriff Luke Ryder, known for his acute detective skills, who must go undercover in California where he will work in public affairs at NASA.
I believe you’ll enjoy these novels, if you get them.
Cheers, John G. Bluck, author
