Introduction

Hot tapping involves the process of welding a branch fitting onto piping or equipment that remains in service, followed by creating an opening in the piping or equipment by drilling or cutting through the material within the attached fitting.

Purpose of Hot Tapping

  • Branch Connections : To create a branch on live piping or tanks.
  • Stopple Plugging for Segment Replacement : Hot tapping with stopple plugging for pipeline segment replacement with bypass flow.
  • Set LOCK-O-RING Plug : Isolate a pipeline section by installing a LOCK-O-RING plug & blind flange.
  • Remove LOCK-O-PLUG : Safely remove a LOCK-O-RING plug for future stoppling work if necessitates.

Competent & Qualified Personnel

OSHA use the term “competent person” in dozens of standards for person serving a variety of roles.

On definition [ from 196.32(f) ], the term "competent person," refers to an individual who can identify existing and potential hazards in the environment or working conditions that pose a risk to employees, and who has the authority to take immediate corrective action to eliminate those hazards.?
