Facebook, Instagram Users in US Can Now Share Ethereum, Flow and Polygon NFTs

Now anyone in the U.S. can showcase their NFTs, joining users in some 100 other countries across Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Middle East, and Americas.

The feature currently supports collectibles from the Ethereum, Flow, and Polygon blockchains, with Solana support also on the horizon. Facebook and Instagram support wallet connections MetaMask, Dapper Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, and TrustWallet. The feature is available from the “digital collectibles” tab in settings in both mobile apps.

Central America’s first metaverse is off to a bad start

A nonfungible token, or NFT, is a unique digital asset encoded onto a blockchain, or more simply, an ownership receipt for anything digital — music, art, or in this case, a 3D model of a home in Detroit, Michigan released this past April. Called “Platzees,” these virtual houses are the centerpiece of Platzeeland, widely believed to be Central America’s first metaverse — a vague term encompassing an immersive virtual reality where people can interact digitally. The complexity, along with a general lack of understanding and regulation, has left investors, who buy into these new digital spaces, open to high-profile?scams?and?crashes.?

Despite OpenSea’s delisting of Platzees, neither Blanco nor his real estate investment fund, Portafolio Diversificado, have been formally or legally accused of any wrongdoing. Yet, even before its launch, Guatemala’s first metaverse has been hit with turbulence.

China’s Local Governments Are Spending Millions on the Metaverse

At least six provincial governments as well as local authorities in 10 cities — including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing — have issued either development plans with a focus on the metaverse or specific supportive measures for people working in the field,?public records?showed. For example, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Wuhan, along with the eastern Shandong province, plan to provide subsidies ranging from 2 million yuan to 200 million yuan ($282,000-$28 million) for metaverse research platforms and projects, along with housing benefits to attract talent.

The metaverse refers to an immersive digital world with a combination of virtual reality, augmented reality, and the mobile internet. While some regard it as the?next tech revolution, no wide applications of the metaverse are currently available despite the hype surrounding it.
