A little less than four weeks to go before the first get-together of the event sector. Finally! 

A real one, not a virtual one. Because human contact is really what our business is built on.

Our event business, however commercial it might be, is an expression of identity. Getting together is how we make significant memories and define ourselves.

There can never be a substitute for a real, live audience. There is nothing stronger than the real connection between people. To feel and be part of shared live experience is sometimes a flowing energy: Fervent, passionate, booming...and sometimes a strong but soundless emotion: touching, overwhelming, silent…what was the loudest silence you ever heard? 

COVID-19 has taken these kinds of shared emotional experiences from us. And made us all realize how treasured such moments are, and how easily they can be taken for granted: Our world was a poorer place these last months.

Our event industry is may be recession-resilient, but it is definitely not shutdown-proof.

And that’s for sure: when things improve, it feels more precious than it has ever felt.

This storm won’t last forever. In the meantime, social distancing will rule. We have all begun imagining the realities of live entertainment in a COVID-sensitive world.

Let’s find ways to support each other, to raise our spirits, and bring live audiences back into our entertainment, safely.

Join us in Cannes, 1 & 2 September. Even with masks and social distancing we will live this incomparable feeling we get when we, the live believers, get together: Learn from each other, have conversations impossible to share on social media, enjoy not just the ideas of the industry we’re in, but the people.

Somehow feel instantly like friends we’ve known forever. 

We all know: These moments are inevitably ephemeral, and positively essential. That is the magic of live events.

Personally, I miss these moments.

We obviously have a huge thought for all those who have been hit hard by the pandemic, the agencies and companies under severe financial strain and struggling for their long-term survival, the persons who have been laid off and the self-employed and those without a fixed monthly income and we know and experience how tough it is.
