Hospitality technology is officially hot

I said it, but I don't have to prove it from my side. Hospitality (and by affiliation Travel technology) is hot right now. There are some serious investments being made, consolidations, and joining of forces happening across the industry. Here are some recent examples:

The Mews and Accor partnership, a classic example of a buy over build decision. It's great to see a new style of PMS being chosen by a major player.

Amadeus signing with a hotel giant (rumors are probably true which one that is). Again, a buy over build scenario for a major company who has built almost everything themselves in the past.

The incredible Siteminder IPO which happened recently. Siteminder has been on a roll for many years, it's good to see that value come to light now.

When you follow investor trends, you know Softbank is right at their at the top in terms of future vision. Cloudbeds has a great product and this shows that it's visible outside our direct industry.

Not quite a tech company, but if you have ever stayed in a CitizenM hotel you know they are all about innovation. The amount itself is eye watering of course.

Two great tech companies in the industry, joining forces to become an even bigger force to be reckoned with.

Hot off the press, OTA Insight bagging a large investment to continue their growth and drive for innovation.

More news hot off the press, travel giant Sabre inks a partnership with travel giant TUI. A few years back at DerbySoft I witnessed first hand how TUI was changing and what their plans were, so this news is no surprise to me.

Not quite the huge numbers of others, but still point of reference that there is focus on the industry.

So what does this mean for every day hoteliers and travel industry professionals? COVID-19 and the global pandemic has only accelerated the inevitable and has pushed technology to the forefront of business management. They will need to embrace technology to accelerate revenue, optimize operations, manage more with less and align technology with an ever-changing marketplace to create value.?

Unfortunately the industry has been knocked back in terms of resources, and it has been and will remain a struggle to keep up to date with new innovations. Solutions providers are also finding it hard to reach the right influencers and decision makers sometimes.

In the end we all have the same goal, which is to help the businesses in the Hospitality and Travel industry move forward with digital transformation, and we hope to help bridge that gap soon with ExploreTECH.

Hello Ralph (Ralph Melis), ‘Everything is hot right now’ indeed as hospitality is coming out of an unprecedented crisis which is forcing them, to speed up their transition and adopt new technologies so they can gain a competitive advantage. To do so, hoteliers need to focus more on the customer and less on operational functions by automating them. ? New PMS technology is key in this process. I recently attended the 4th edition of the #FoodHotelTech exhibition in Paris and had the chance to meet with various PMS solution providers (#Mews #Amenitiz #Infor #Topsys#Myapaleo #Chloe #Hoist #FamilyHotel #Misterbooking #Tha?sSoft…). PMS technology has been transformed and these new solutions are real strategic tools. ? The increase in PMS solution providers makes the landscape more competitive but cost remains high (6 to 9€/room) and also very complex for small independent hotels, which need to make a choice in this tech jungle. It is not just about choosing a PMS but also about considering what comes with it; these PMS function as Open-Source API integration platforms with 100s of hospitality solutions (RMS, Market-Intelligence, ..). How do you choose ? ? #Hospitality #Propertymanagement #Revenuemanagement #Hoteltechnology #PMS #RMS

More consolidation for sure and the cost of acquisition? in both segments ( clients & suppliers) will lead to more mergers in the near future !
