In April 2024, the unthinkable had happened on the Island of Roatán - due to a short circuit in the pediatric wing, the only public hospital serving the local people on the island had burned to the ground. The Global Links team was able to quickly provide disaster recovery medical materials which allowed the community to set up temporary health services in a donated church building while plans are being made to build the new public hospital.
Dr. Venessa Rivers, Head of Outpatient Services shared, “Everything burned, even our personal belongings. Fortunately, we were able to get all the patients out, even one who had just come out of surgery...all the other areas [but the laboratory] burned, and we had to start from scratch and go from there, so the donations have been very helpful and believe me, we appreciate them from the bottom of our hearts.”
