Strengthening Relationships Through Energy Awareness

Strengthening Relationships Through Energy Awareness

During my equine-assisted coaching training, Ilearned that horses, just like humans, respond to the energy projected by those around them. Approaching a horse without establishing a sense of safety and trust can lead to uncomfortable interactions. This is also true for our interactions with our team members as well. Our energy levels can greatly impact the quality of our connections and the overall dynamics within the team.

Creating a safe and trusting environment is vital for effective teamwork. When team members feel safe and comfortable, they are more likely to express themselves, share ideas, and take calculated risks. By checking our energy and projecting a sense of trustworthiness and calmness, we can alleviate any apprehension or anxiety that others may feel. When people perceive their leaders as calm, composed, and approachable, it creates a positive atmosphere and fosters a sense of psychological safety.

Consider the last time you interacted with someone who was stressed or angry. Could you sense their energy? Perhaps you found yourself responding to their energy, whether consciously or unconsciously. Just like horses, humans can feel the energy around them. As leaders, this gives us an opportunity to connect with our team members on a deeper level. By being present, paying attention, and being aware of our own energy, we can foster stronger relationships.

Checking our energy is not a one-time event but an ongoing practice. It involves self-reflection and observation.?

  • Start by challenging yourself to check your energy at the start of each interaction with your team.?
  • Take a moment to ground yourself, breathe deeply, and consciously project a positive and trustworthy energy.?
  • Notice the impact this has on the overall dynamics and the response of your team members.

Creating a safe environment built on trust takes time and consistent effort. Trust is the foundation of effective teamwork, allowing individuals to rely on one another, delegate tasks, and work together towards shared goals. By consistently exhibiting positive energy and creating a safe space, we can strengthen the trust within our team. Trust fosters an environment where individuals feel supported, valued, and appreciated, leading to increased job satisfaction and overall well-being.

Building trust and fostering a safe environment also have a direct impact on productivity. A positive change in morale often goes in hand with higher levels of motivation and engagement. When team members feel safe, heard, and valued, they are more likely to be proactive, take initiative, and contribute their best efforts. This higher level of engagement leads to improved productivity, efficiency, and the achievement of organizational goals.

I encourage you to challenge yourself by checking your energy before, during, and after interactions with your team. Remember, lasting change is a process and will take time, so be patient and observant. Take note of how your team responds over time, and be open to adjusting your approach as needed.

So, by being aware of our energy and creating a safe and trusting environment, we can strengthen our relationships and enhance teamwork. Let's continue to foster positive connections, build trust, and support one another on this journey of growth and collaboration.

Wishing you all a harmonious and energizing week ahead!
