Horses Back on Track at Balmoral

by Susan Kayne

Beautiful Balmoral Park is once again flush with majestic horses! In May, Horseshows in The Sun (HITS), Inc., America’s Premier Horse Show Management Company, opened the beloved grounds after a one-year-long renovation that transformed the facility into a state-of-the-art Equestrian Show Jumping complex.

This new chapter in the storied life of the 90-year-old racetrack began in May 2016 when HITS purchased the facility in partnership with Illinois-based Showplace Productions. From the original racing oval, HITS has created nine spacious competition rings—five show rings for Hunters and four show rings for Jumpers, including a large Grand Prix Stadium which sits directly in front of the VIP Clubhouse. All rings are visible from the 4,467 seat, climate-controlled Grandstand.

Former Balmoral Park racegoers will recognize the original tote board and the same finish line post that countless racehorses have crossed since 1926. The iconic post was restored from the original racetrack and prominently placed in the Grand Prix Ring.
