Horse Riding Trainer's diaries: Conversations worth your attention

Horse Riding Trainer's diaries: Conversations worth your attention

“Are you complementing my son to feel better about himself when you tell him good job, or you really mean that?” said a rider's parent.

Speechless for hours, overwhelmed for days.?Growing up as a horse rider, a place that taught me all there is to know about life and people, depressed me sometimes but also inspired me and shaped who I am now.

6 months ago, my dream has come to reality and I became a trainer for beginners. Had I got inspired by some of my trainers and disappointed by others, I decided to be the trainer who only help riders to have more confidence and have a lifetime training experience. This had me exerting a lot of effort focusing on what to say and what not to say not to cause any kind of trauma to anyone especially to the kids.

Dealing with a range from 6 years old to about 40 years old, sometimes, I felt lost between empowering them to feel the power of riding a horse or being overly protective just in case the horse causes any surprising threatening move that might for a 1% cause any injury or a trauma to the rider.

“I tell my son don’t be afraid, but if I were at his shoes, I would have been afraid, and I wouldn’t do it.” said a rider’s parent.

"Are you complementing my son to feel better about himself when you tell him good job, or you really mean that?” Conversations like these with riders' parents affected me a lot, moved me and hurt me sometimes. I Feel so much for that rider's parent and I cannot describe how I feel in words; do I blame her for not believing in her son? No. I can't blame her, but I wished to tell her that if he heard her asking me this question, it would be a very bad and traumatic experience that will grow up with him, but I couldn't. I just deliberately found myself cheering up for the rider till the end of the day.

On the other side of the story, I met other parents who surprised me with the power they gave to their kids. A power that they do not have. “I tell my son don’t be afraid, but if I were at his shoes, I would have been afraid, and I wouldn’t do it.” Had I pushed this kid with more power, they would have flied with the horse, and this is a certain riding incident that we all don't wish for.

"Ride horses to be a celebrity and show-off your skills on TV" said a rider's parent

"Ride horses to become a celebrity and show-off your skills on TV" said another parent, if you were me, how would you respond to that??

I had to respond to elders dignity, babies' cries and teenagers' confusions, will a trainer fix how a teenager feels about herself when she feels that she is a failure. She fails to do the homework and succeed at school. Little do you know, missy, this is not how failure looks like.

Endless experiences, conversations, laughs and cries. Will I survive and will I be good enough? We'll see...

To be continued.
