With Halloween just on the horizon, we thought now would be a great time to review some shocking and scary facts about the benefits of turning to EVs over traditionally fuelled vehicles.?
Aside from the obvious edge that EVs have in regards to the environmental impacts, with less carbon emissions and the removal of fossil fuel usage, there are many more surprising advantages of switching yours and your employees' vehicles to electric.
Low BIK tax!
When leasing an electric vehicle as an employer, there is a horrifying difference between the amount of Business in Kind (BIK) tax that you would pay versus that you pay for a petrol or diesel.?
BIK tax is company car tax that is paid as a percentage of the value of the car each month and can be up to 37% on petrol or diesel vehicles, but is just 1% on a fully electric vehicle!?
No longer silent!
So one thing that can put people off of shifting to an EV is the perception that the vehicles are completely silent, with no motor or engine noise. However, this is no longer the case and in some cases, you can even choose the sound that your vehicle makes.?
Vehicle makers have been working hard to create the perfect engine noise, involving experiments with recordings of electric guitars, Formula E race-car engine sounds, and the hum of high-voltage power lines. This is sure to give any petrol head the same satisfaction that they seek.
Charging station increase!
According to Zap-Map, in May 2021, the number of electric charging stations registered on their network actually outnumbered the amount of petrol stations in the UK!?
Whilst we are still working on this figure here on the wonderful Isle of Wight, there has been a huge country wide increase of public charging station installations over the last 30 days, with nearly 850 public charge points registered on Zap-Map.
Less maintenance!?
Unlike their traditionally fuelled counterparts, electric vehicles have no components like oil, fan belts, air filters, timing belts, gaskets, spark plugs, etc., meaning the cost of maintenance is significantly lower and comes with a lot lower risk. In fact, according to CAP HCI, the cost of maintenance on an EV is around 23% cheaper!
Lower fuel cost!
One of the scariest things about converting to EV is quite how stark the difference in fuel costs is. As an example, if you were to take a Renault Clio, to drive 200 miles, based on prices as of 24th October (RAC/Experian Catalist), it would cost approximately £1.43 per litre, would require 16.3 litres of petrol, and would mean a total cost of £23.30 for that 200 mile journey.
As a direct comparison, if you take the Renault Zoe, a full charge overnight at home would enable the same 200 mile journey and cost around £3.75, which equates to 1.87p per mile. And to take that further, if you were to travel 10,000 miles per year, that would be a massive saving of £973 per year!
