So while we like to talk about estrogen and progesterone all the time around here, there is another hormone that might be causing havoc in your life...CORTISOL!
And while it might be summer, and things might be a little less stressful, we know that for most of our Strength & Grace family, stress is never far behind.
Over the years, here are the most impactful strategies we've found for managing cortisol...
- Caffeine Can Be a Challenge: Many of us rely on caffeine, but consuming too much of it can send our cortisol through the roof. Now we have a caffeine curfew and focused on the best sources possible. Not only did we feel more focused and energized, but this change was also reflected in the data from our Oura rings
- Early Morning Sunlight is Non-Negotiable: Though I’ve known about the benefits of morning sunlight for a while, I wasn't taking the time to really breathe is all in.??Over the past few months, during my morning walks, I have taken a moment to be more present, and this has significantly decreased the amount of naps I have needed. Just 10 minutes outside with natural light in the morning can make a big difference.
- Movement: So many of our clients tell us that getting in exercise just doesn't happen because they are too busy.??Recently I have been encouraging them to focus on movement snacks...that's right, not a full on exercise bout, but a 10 minute two times per day, can make a big difference.??These walks help to reduce stress, get movement in for the body, and since they are short in duration you don't need a whole new set of clothes or your running shoes.
- Connection with Friends and Loved Ones: It’s easy to brush off socializing or giving attention to your significant other when you're tired, but these connections are vital for good health and happiness. Even if you have to mark it in your calendar, make time for these interactions. Your cortisol levels will find balance.
- Well-Balanced Meals: Insulin and cortisol are correlated, and frequent blood sugar spikes can impact your cortisol levels. Aim for well-balanced meals to help manage this. In need of some new recipes - grab them here.??
