When I hit my fifties, I noticed a subtle change.
Not the typical aging complaints.
One that I didn’t expect.
?Fast twitch muscle wasting.
?What now??
Elevator explanation on muscle fibers – “We have fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. Both are very important. Fast twitch gives you power and speed; slow twitch is about endurance. You might think that knowing about these fibers is only important for marathoners or sprinters, but not true! There are all sorts of daily activities where fast twitch is important, but one of the main ones is your ability to react to trips, spills, and falls. Your longevity is irrevocably linked to your ability to avoid tumbles and remain agile and nimble.”
?So, I noticed it was taking a little longer to get warmed up for any exercise, my reaction times seemed slower, and my coordination and speed were decreasing. I said, whoah, Nellie, this does not have to be just an unavoidable part of aging!
?Agility work is an excellent addition to any exercise routine, and guess what? It’s fun! It taps into your inner “hopscotcher” and checks so many boxes to ensure a long, healthy, and active life. And when done consistently, it is a tremendous fat burner and hormone regulator. (#menopause)
?You don’t need any equipment except perhaps a piece of chalk or one of these affordable agility ladders I found on Amazon. HERE
When you work on speed and agility and perform in short bursts, you are investing in cardiac output, lean muscle strength, and so much more.
?Here is a short video demonstrating agility training. I selected six agility exercises, performed each back-to-back, took a one-minute rest, and repeated.

9 个月Cindy would love an agility ladder! She is always making sure that I move and stretch so that I don't get old too fast.
