Hope is what keeps life going
On the way to Hatwanjari in Yavatmal district, many girls are waiting for transport outside a school. A few are practicing their English. As they mix up words in various languages, they burst out laughing at their own ineptitude. When asked for the route to Hatwanjari, one says, “ You go saral ( straight). No turning. Cement road kaam ( work) is chalu (on)”. She is confident enough to speak whatever English she knows. Why are they practicing English? One of them has seen a job advertisement for air hostesses in a vernacular newspaper asking for English speaking girls! The wrath of nature, suicides, struggle, and perennial poverty—these girls have seen these and many more in life. But they are daring to dream. And soar high. Dreams often come true and hope is what keeps life going.
