Hope

Hope

For those of you familiar with the One Heart Project, you have likely heard or seen the story of Mack White. Mack was the first youth in the system we connected with. I could not be more proud of the man Mack has become. It’s Mack’s friend that keeps me aware of just how important this issue is. Ladarius played in the first Gainesville-Faith game that was the inspiration for the One Heart movie, and launched the One Heart Project. We worked with Ladarius for a while, helped him with transportation and other needs. Unfortunately, Ladarius never really grabbed hold of the opportunity. Sadly, we lost him. Feeling hopeless, he looked for a way out and took his own life.

It didn’t have to be that way, that day. And it doesn’t have to be that way now.

Both Mack and Ladarius drive me to continue pushing One Heart forward. One with great joy. One with deep pain.

If the first One Heart football game taught us anything, it taught us that it costs almost nothing to give someone hope. We have an amazing opportunity to provide hope to kids who have none.

Hope is defined as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.” Words do not adequately describe what hope does for these kids. It becomes a lifeline, a realization that there is something better out there for them, a pathway to a future.

 And that is transformative.

Great things happening in SLC. We will be launching the initiative there in less than 2 months.
