HOPE MARKETING WILL NOT BUILD YOUR BUSINESS
WHAT IS HOPE MARKETING?
It’s a painful approach to finding and attracting qualified people to your network marketing business. It’s a disheartening way to show up in the marketplace for those who don’t have a clear proven strategy to find and connect with people who would actually love to collaborate with you to achieve mutual success.
Too many network marketers are really hope marketers. Their business building strategy is throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks. Don’t think this is true? Then why are so many posts begging people to join this or that opportunity??
NETWORK BEGGING
Begging? Yup. That’s what I call an unsupported claim that your company is the best one with the best products or services, and it will deliver me to the promised land. If nine posts make the exact same claim, then no opportunity is the best one. The dictionary defines best as that which is most excellent. There can only be one.?
Examples of hope marketing are amusing, sad, and strange. Why strange? Because every network marketing company trains you how to effectively prospect and build your business. True? Maybe not. In my experience, many respected companies have great products and services, strong honest leaders, and no real marketing.?
Think about that. The industry is called Network Marketing. But the marketing is nowhere to be found. There’s lots of feel good training. Distributors attend events that send them home floating above the ground. But their excitement and motivation evaporate as quickly as a mirage.?
WHERE ARE THE SYSTEMS?
How many times have you been trained in the “duplicatable system” that works? A month later another successful leader introduces the system that is better than the system that works. And, no, it doesn’t end there.?
I was in a great company where I started earning immediately and walked away from with more than half a million dollars. I lost track of the all the duplicatable systems I learned that never duplicated. How did I earn money? By staying in the game and groping in the dark.?
It shouldn’t be that way, and it definitely doesn’t have to be. The network marketing journey should not only be profitable; it should also be joyful and fun. Here’s how.

STOP CLAIMING “WE’RE THE BEST”
Every time you make this claim that no one believes you lose credibility and posture. Also, people instinctively know that those who are really the best don’t have to announce it. They confidently own their stature and demonstrate it. Show beats tell every time.?
DON’T GUSH ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
The rule should be don’t gush at all. No one cares about your products and services, or mine, or anyone else’s. What do people care about? Being heard and understood. So, tell your energizer bunny to take a nap when you meet a prospective teammate. Discipline yourself to do very little talking. Develop the skill to draw people out naturally so they talk about themselves.
BE A PERSON, NOT A BILLBOARD
Engage in natural conversations where you do a lot of deep listening. When it’s appropriate to say something, speak from the heart. Don’t be afraid to reveal vulnerability and weaknesses. What?! Yes, when you can easily admit weaknesses and failures, you become stronger in the other person’s eyes.?
ALIGN YOUR MIND AND YOUR MOUTH…
…with the rest of your body. Non verbal communication is very powerful. It speaks directly to the subconscious mind. The people you interact with may not even be able to articulate why they feel uncomfortable and don’t believe you when you talk to them. But they feel it, and that feeling makes them pull away from you, even when they smile and act engaged.?
SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THEIR PAIN
When you show up without a false front, without company jargon and manufactured enthusiasm, people will open up and tell you things that may surprise you. Everyone has a need to unburden, including you and I. Send people the unconscious signal that they can safely reveal their hearts to you. When they do, invite them to discover how your products and services can take away their pain.
There’s an art to inviting. I’ll save that for another post. Just remember that an invitation is not a pitch. It's a sincere gesture without a hidden agenda or any attachment.?
