Hope for Families - Alloy Labs Family & Self Care Policy

Alloy Labs treats mothers, fathers and partners, regardless of gender, marital or legal status, the same. We do not differentiate between adoption, surrogacy or natural childbirth.?

We provide 3 months of paid leave that can be taken over the course of the year following birth or adoption. Moms, Dads, Partners all have different roles at different times. We ask that you be respectful of the team as you plan (and share) when you will be out.?

In light of the current political situation, we are reworking our family leave policy to be a holistic care policy; much of this will evolve as implementation impacts what the final product looks like but here is our framework:

  • We believe everyone needs support so we are adding a mental care package in addition to our healthcare benefit to support counseling for new parents, those going through IVF, adoption, fostering, life choices that might lead to terminating a pregnancy, getting married, getting divorced, or any other circumstance that speaking to a professional would help. Basically your mental health is important. Take care of it. Alloy Labs will cover up to 5 sessions per year (full pay) or 10 co-pays. Our tele-health provider keeps your use of the service confidential (e.g. we just see the bill, not your name); if you would like to see someone in person now you can) either submit the receipt on your expense report, send it to Tony so it doesn't show up on an expense report or send it to me. FYI - I will be using the max of this benefit so there is no judgment from me
  • We believe in the sanctity of life and support families, but recognize every circumstance is different. Our journey was very different than we expected. Alloy Labs will provide support for team members that must travel to receive reproductive care of any kind, including but not limited to IVF, surrogacy, adoption or pregnancy termination, with extended time off and travel support up to $1,500 for you and someone that needs to travel with you whether that be a spouse, partner,?
  • We are creating a program for employees that support their family (parents/siblings/nieces & nephews/etc.) that goes above our unlimited vacation policy. As a team we are going to work through what this looks like and how we best enact it
  • We will work out a plan for personal wellness and family days on a regular schedule. This is another team based program we will work it out together. As a start, from June through August, everyone has off Friday afternoons. Wait, I thought we already have unlimited vacation, why do I need this? We do have unlimited vacation but vacations often require planning so we do it rarely. The purpose of summer Friday’s is to ensure we are each getting at least a half day to spend on ourselves. Weekends are often interrupted with kids, errands, house work, etc. If doing these things on a Friday without crowds alleviates stress on the weekends, that is your choice but PLEASE make time for you.?

If you have other suggestions or see needs that we haven’t addressed, I’m all ears.

Our team is our everything. We work magic on a daily basis but only because of the magic?that rests in each of us. Let's take care of ourselves and take care of each other.

If you're wondering about the name of our plan, our daughters that passed away were Hope Elizabeth.?

Regardless of our circumstances, there is always Hope. Wherever this policy finds you, we are a family and will find a way to support you.?

Great post. When I had my daughter 15 years ago, I had to use my medical leave and vacation as my maternity leave. Glad to see you supporting families.

Jason Henrichs Having also experienced a rough path to parenthood, I can attest to the enormous difference that having benefits and the support from your employer makes during such difficult & challenging times. I was fortunate to be working for CEO at the time that was also proactive and progressive in supoorting employees in this area and I am eternally grateful to him. However, my experience and the support received in the workplace was unique and alas support since then has gone backwards. This is so near and dear to my heart. Thank you for your leadership! @Emmanuel Friedman

Jason Henrichs I know you have had tough journey to parenthood. Thank you for sharing and for sharing your policy. These are tough times and community supporting community gives us all hope. Thank you ?

Jason, thanks for posting this publicly. As someone that has been in a similar situation, it's so important to recognize when people are going through difficult personal times and provide that support.
