Hootsuite – by Alex Wedderburn
Alex Wedderburn, a Senior Enterprise Account Director and Higher Education Industry Lead at Hootsuite, spoke to me in my digital media marketing class at George Brown College on how social media is a critical aspect of any business. Alex discussed how social affects daily life and the numerous job opportunities available in the field of social media.
Social media is one of the most important tools necessary for many brands and enterprises; statistics show that the usage of social media is increasing year after year, making it a platform rich in potential. Everyone's desire to interact with one another has become a top priority. One of the most intriguing topics Alex discussed was the significance of the social value chain. Which is engagement > conversions > stronger relationships. Let us understand this chain briefly.
The first element is engagement, which implies you must engage your audience/customers who buy your product or service. Surveys, questionnaires, and reviews are examples of engagement activities.
Conversations are the next component of the chain — this is now the reacting element to the engagement area of the chain. This involves responding to reviews, asking your consumers questions, and seeking input on how to enhance your product or service.
Finally, adhering to the social value chain results in better connections. Stronger relationships will result in increased brand loyalty, trust, and overall following. Understanding the social value chain allows you to apply the strategy to social media campaigns and company goals to enhance your social impact.
All of these methods in which brands use social media provide value to both the brand and the customer. Social media is much more than simply publishing photographs; it's about developing relationships with customers that generate trust and commitment to companies.

Alex also discussed the social communication infrastructure and ecosystem, which was a fascinating topic. It consists of:
Getting the most out of social media may be as simple as looking at each of these elements carefully and thoughtfully.
The case study with Alex was a fun and interesting experience. We wanted to come up with numerous innovative concepts for consumer interaction on various social media channels for a meet and greet with the Toronto Raptors utilizing the Hootsuite platform. This assignment educated me about numerous conversion methods as well as how to improve customer perception and engagement.
He also discussed how to utilize statistics to measure the overall performance of your social media activities across several platforms. Analytics analyses organic, owned, and earned data on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Alex's presentation was quite interesting, and it provided me with a better understanding of what a career in social media entails. Every day, new trends arise, necessitating the need for new roles in the social media industry. The variety and specializations that you may take on in the area of social media are highly enticing, and I feel that these occupations will become increasingly important as social media grows in popularity.
I'd want to thank our instructor, Wendy Greenwood, for organizing this seminar, as well as Alex Wedderburn for making it an eye-opening experience and for providing me with a lot of encouragement. This is a professional path that I am really interested in, and I plan to follow it in the future since it allows me to use all of my abilities. I enjoy expressing my creative side by creating material, but I also enjoy analyzing insights and data to track the growth and progress of various projects. This will be possible for me if I pursue a profession in social media.
