The 5 M's of Management

Are you in a management position? Are you any good? If so, why, and who says? What makes you so revered by the company that put you in that position and by the people that work for you? What earned---and continues to earn---you the title and power you have?
On the fateful day that we are in elevators together again and I ask you those questions, I really want you to be able to answer them by the time we reach our floor. And I don't particularly want to hear "..because I put my people first" or "I listen" or "they always know I got their back". HOW?? Sorry to be so bossy, but you're the actual boss and I want to know, in precise detail, what makes you so good and worthy of making the money you do, having decision-making ability and controlling the environment of those that work with/for you.
This is serious stuff and you should be able to answer these basic questions.
In fairness, I put those questions to myself recently. I think I'm a pretty awesome manager and leader. People whom I have managed have told me that I am, many have told me I should write a book, and I have been promoted and compensated accordingly. But WHY? HOW? WHAT DO I REALLY DO or KNOW THAT MAKES ME A GOOD MANAGER?
Here is what I would quickly say to you in our elevator ride:
"I believe in the 5 M's of Good Management:
Mining
Magnifying
Maneuvering
Multiplying
Modifying.
I do this consciously and consistently with all my employees and it works."
**Ding** (we're on the ground floor). If you want more information, you are going to have to read my book or follow me out to the train station.
I have precise and direct answers for you. Because my job is important and people (and the business I represent) are counting on me to be good at it. This is serious.
So, I ask you again: If you are a manger, what makes you so qualified and so good? What do you know? Tell me.
