Hook Partners with Curiosity
Plus: The Curiosity Booster Prompt
Want to know the real reason your partners aren't jumping at your emails?
It's not your product.
It's not your pitch.
It's because you're giving away the farm for free.
Time to change the game.
Enter: The Curiosity Gap.
What the Hell is a Curiosity Gap?
It's the itch your brain can't scratch. The cliffhanger that keeps you up at night. The reason you can't stop scrolling. And it's your new best friend in partner engagement.
George Loewenstein, the mastermind behind the Information Gap Theory, figured out that our brains go haywire when we realize there's something we don't know. We'll do anything to fill that gap. Including hanging on your every word.
Tease, Don't Please
Now that you understand the concept of the curiosity gap, let's explore why it's such a powerful tactic.
The key is to stop spoon-feeding your audience and instead leave them craving more.
Why it Works:
This isn't just clever marketing. It's brain chemistry. When you dangle information just out of reach, you're not just peaking interest. You're triggering a psychological need. They're not just wanting your next email; they're needing it.
The Playbook to Implement
Alright, you get the concept—now it's time to put it into action.
Here’s how you lean into this curiosity gap:
领英推荐
Drip, Don’t Flood: Instead of dumping info, hit them with this: “Market shift incoming. Flips your Q1. Details next week.” Short. Sharp. They’ll bite.
Check-ins That Actually Matter: Stop wasting time with pleasantries. Try: “Found your competitor’s weak spot. Ready to exploit?” You’ll have their attention.
Plant ‘What If’ Scenarios: Keep them guessing: “Half the onboarding time. Double the satisfaction. Sound impossible? Let’s discuss Friday.” They’ll be counting the days.
Emails With Hooks, Not Fluff: Forget the warm-up. Drop a bomb: “There’s one thing that could 10x your Q4 campaign. Too big for email. Call me.” Their phone will be in their hand before you hit “send.”
FOMO That Forces Action: Don’t give them time to think: “Closed-door strategy session. Limited seats. You in?” Boom. Done.
Every interaction should leave them thinking: "What am I missing?"
You're not here to please.
You're here to provoke.
To challenge.
To make them realize they need you more than you need them.
