Mastering Memorial Fundraising and Engaging Bereaved Donors with Compassion
Navigating conversations around loss can be challenging for fundraisers, often creating barriers to meaningful engagement with bereaved donors who choose to give in this special way.
Nova Fundraising are delighted to be joined by Louise Dillon , founder of Armadillo Life and Fred Bennett's Don't Look Down Fund , a Special Named Fund with CCLG, in memory of her son Fred, for an insightful session around engaging with donors who decide to donate in memory.
Drawing from her own personal journey and experience in grief training, Louise offers a unique perspective on engaging with bereaved donors. As someone who has walked the path of loss, she brings authenticity and deep understanding to this sensitive topic.
In the session, Louise will:
1. Share specific language tips and phrases to use (and avoid) when speaking with bereaved donors, ensuring your communication is both respectful and supportive.
2. Demonstrate how to open up conversations around grief and loss
3. Guide you through creating a more empathetic and supportive fundraising communication
4. Offer insights on transforming personal loss into a powerful force for support and change, sharing her own experience in establishing the "Don't Look Down" Fund.
If your organisation works with bereaved donors or would like to engage more in this special form of fundraising but are not sure how to go about it sensitively, Louise brings not only practical tips and advice, but also an openness to ask questions and talk around this sensitive topic.
Join us to gain the confidence and skills needed to engage bereaved donors with empathy, respect, and genuine care.
About Louise: Louise has spent the past ten years training organisations on a range of subjects, including marketing, branding, and online safety for children.
Having experienced personal loss early in life with the passing of both parents six years apart during her twenties, Louise was no stranger to grief. However, in 2019, her 13-year-old son, Fred, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and died ten months later.
Since then, Louise has become a passionate advocate for raising awareness and understanding around grief. She has spoken and written extensively on the topic, contributing to online platforms, newspapers, television, and podcasts. Through her work, Louise is dedicated to improving how people approach and support others through the experience of grief, encouraging a more compassionate and informed society.
About Armadillo Life: Armadillo Life's work around grief awareness focuses on supporting individuals and workplaces in navigating the complexities of bereavement. They offer guidance on how to help grieving colleagues by providing resources for understanding grief's impact and promoting a compassionate work environment. This includes practical tips for maintaining productivity while being sensitive to emotional needs. Through these efforts, they aim to create an informed and empathetic approach to grief in the workplace.
About Don't Look Down: Fred Bennett's "Don't Look Down" Fund is a charitable organization raising money for research into acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) through CCLG in memory of Fred, who passed away at 14. The fund honors Fred's energetic, fearless spirit and aims to give more children the chance to live fully, supporting research for better treatments. The name reflects Fred's resilient attitude and determination, even throughout his illness.
