Honour is noble and glorious – by Ted Msipa
The most profound realization that I have established is that everything I desire to live a successful life is here on earth. This includes the finances, academics, business and relationships. The more I grow the more I perceive the realities of creation, the more I am persuaded about the dynamic of life. Jehovah God has established the heavens for his wondrous purposes and He has given the earth to the sons of man. It is therefore imperative on all of us to understand the vicissitudes of life so that we engage it at the right level. This where the concept of honour comes into context.
Honour is the most underrated principle in life. Yet it is the single most powerful universal tool for transformation and success. Honour can be defined as showing of merited respect and recognition. It is according a person the status of superior Standing, or treating them as one who is worth of respect and fame by virtue of what they have achieved. Honour thus, can be defined as rendering someone the treatment worth of a very very important person.
History is littered with great examples of people who understood the mystery of honour and became great by practicing this erstwhile principle. Consider the amazing Christ, who is the ultimate benchmark of the principle of honour. He fully understood that whatever you honoured would be attracted to you. He modelled amazing honour in honouring his father Jehovah God by coming to die for all humanity. Jesus did not have to die for us, but because he honoured his father he gladly did it. Due to that amazing act of honour Jehovah God has no choice but to return the honour to Jesus Christ. The bible records that he then gave him the name above every name. How Jehovah God exalted Jesus Christ and gave him a name above every name. At the mention of the name of Jesus Christ, every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. It is important for you to recognize that Jesus had to honour Jehovah God first, and then Jehovah God reciprocated by giving him a name above every other name. We can clearly see that honour attracts more honour.
Based on a story shared in the ultimate leadership book, we can validate that when you honour the honourable you will receive honour also. The story of Elisha is a good case study where we see Elisha the farmer being asked to follow Prophet Elijah and become his personal assistant. The recorded literature clearly shows that Elisha was reduced to an errands boy doing a number of menial tasks during Elijah’s many escapades and journeys. The most articulate record show s that he was responsible for washing the hands of Elijah. He never considered it a demeaning exercise, but instead he was extra diligent to the extent that Elijah respected him and wanted to honour him. This is why when the time for Elijah to honour Elisha came, he requested to be given a double portion of what Elijah. Because honour is a godly dictate Elisha received a double portion of the anointing upon Elijah. It did not come upon a silver platter it came at the price of honour. When you further probe you see the amazing thing about honour Elijah did seven major recorded miracles but Elisha did fourteen recorded miracles including raising the dead. Honour is an amazing thing, it enables you to qualify for what you originally did not qualify for.
It is therefore important that we learn to honour what we desire, or those who have what we desire and those who have paid the price to become great. The reason why a good number of people will die poor is because they despise those who have financial resources. In line with the law of honour they cannot attract financial breakthroughs.
We all remember how Thabo Mbeki modeled honour towards Nelson Mandela to the extent that then President Nelson Mandela bequeathed the Presidency to him. Honour will open closed doors for you. It will usher you into places you never imagined or dreamt of. Sometimes when all the truth is told the reason why you are stuck in the gutters is dishonor.
May honour become your portion this season. It is honour that made Abraham God’s friend. It is honour that took Joseph from the prison to the palace. It is honour that gave Jesus Christ a name above every other name. It is honour that promoted Elisha to become a double portion prophet. Honour preserves a nation and a people. May the leader in you rise to conquer.
