In honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day

In honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, our team had the privilege of hosting an enlightening Indigenous cultural awareness session on October 2nd led by Holly Fortier . Holly is an Indigenous educator as well as a film maker, among many other things, and a remarkable individual of Cree/Dene heritage from Ft. McKay, First Nation, Alberta, she shared her lived experience and knowledge with openness, honesty, and warmth.?

In preparation for this important session, our team members were asked to watch Holly’s film “A Mother’s Voice” , we highly encourage you to watch it if you have not yet. It is the story of Holly’s Mom, Lina Gallup, a residential school survivor.??

Holly led us through a powerful exploration of Indigenous cultures, traditions and history. Holly’s insights provided our team with a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by Indigenous communities. It was an important reminder of the need to keep learning Truths and that Reconciliation starts with each of us.?

We extend our sincere gratitude to Holly for graciously sharing her knowledge with us. If you are interested in learning more about Holly’s Indigenous cultural awareness training and creative work, feel free to visit her websites www.nistoconsulting.com and www.twocanoesmedia.com .??

It is also very important to recognize that yesterday (October 4th) marked the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Two Spirit (MMIWG2S).??
