Honoring those who’ve served
Leanne Caret
Fortune 100 Board Director | Advisor | Former CEO, Boeing Defense, Space & Security
Every year on November 11, we pause to honor the men and women who have served in our nation’s military with our allies and have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms. I am truly humbled to work in service to and alongside so many inspiring veterans. Boeing is dedicated to supporting them, and over the past five years, we have contributed more than $50 million to aid veterans service programs and initiatives, including $8.4 million in 2021 for veterans and military family organizations worldwide.
Today, I am honored to invite one of my incredible veteran teammates – Tammie Curran – to share her personal reflections on her military service and what Veterans Day means to her.
Please join me in thanking and supporting veterans at Boeing and beyond, and their families, for their service – today and every day. ?

When I think back on my time in the Navy, the thing I remember most is the support of my fellow sailors. We were all one team working together to support each other and the mission at hand.
Since serving in uniform myself, one of the sayings I learned from my son, an Army National Guardsmen, really resonated with me and speaks to that culture of support – “I’ve got your six.” It means, “I’ve got your back.” If you picture your body as a clock, your front would be 12, and your back would be six. In combat operations, you need to have your back covered.
To me, this is what service is all about. It means supporting one another no matter the circumstances. It means supporting veterans and their families – because families serve, too.
It means supporting Boeing customers and the service members who use Boeing products to conduct their missions around the world. And it means supporting teammates however they need it.
I don’t wear the same uniform today, but I’m proud to work for Boeing’s defense business to provide the products and services that protect service members like my son. I’m honored to have his back and that of countless other armed forces members who in turn serve us. And this Veterans Day, I want all Boeing veterans to know we have their backs, too.
Today, I’d encourage everyone to show the veterans in your life that you’re there for them. Ask about their service. Let them know you’ve got their back. And please join me in honoring them and their families.
