Honoring the Man Aviation History Almost Forgot

Commercial airplanes have millions of moving parts (the Boeing 747 was said to have as many as 6 million). While the Wright Brothers get the credit for the first flight, that achievement wouldn’t have been possible without?Charles E. Taylor, who was born in a log cabin and went on to design and build the first airplane engine.?

?In 2008, Congress honored Taylor’s memory and the work of airline maintenance professionals by establishing National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day, to be observed annually on May 24, Taylor’s birthday.?

Today, demand for aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) and avionics workers is robust and is growing by more than 11 percent in this decade according to the?U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s about 14,400 jobs each year through 2030. Learn more about a career in aviation maintenance.

And thank you to Taylor – known as the Father of Aircraft Maintenance – and to the thousands of men and women who work every day to keep our skies safe!
