Honoring heroes, every day

Honoring heroes, every day

At Rust-Oleum, we're proud to be more than just a paint company. We're a community of associates committed to making a positive impact, especially for those who've served our nation. This Veterans Day, we’re highlighting how we’re supporting the Lake County Veterans and Family Services organization in Illinois.

The Corporate Communications team sat down with Kevin Guyot, "Veterans in Need" Program Manager and Veteran who served in the United States Army for 33 years, to learn more about critical realities affecting local Veterans, including housing, access to mental health services and food insecurity. ?

Every dollar counts

"The support we receive from organizations like Rust-Oleum is absolutely invaluable," says Kevin. "It allows us to directly address the urgent needs of our Veterans, providing them with the resources and support they need to overcome challenges."

Through a series of inspiring fundraisers, including the Ruck March, Captain’s Corner drink purchase matches, and even a talent show, we’ve raised nearly $15,000 this year alone thanks to associates and RO Cares match.

“We don’t receive grants from the government,” added Kevin. “All funds come from donations.”

And the need is ongoing. As the cost of living continues to rise, more and more Veterans are struggling to make ends meet. ?

“Just last week, we received a message from a man who needed assistance with late fees and missed rental payments after an unexpected increase. Similar requests came up several times just last week,” said Kevin.

Beyond financial support, Lake County Veterans and Family Services is also committed to raising awareness about mental health and the invisible wounds many might not realize. Rust-Oleum has actively participated in the annual Ruck March, a powerful event that honors those who've lost their lives to suicide and encourages open conversations about mental well-being.

Keep the momentum going

Be on the lookout for more ways to support this organization. In the meantime, Kevin hopes people think of those who’ve served not just on Veterans Day but all year round.

“Everybody is busy with the world going on around them and unfortunately, thinking about Veterans might not be second nature throughout the year,” Kevin said. “It’s so important to not forget about them and their sacrifice. There are many all around us who are in need of support.”?

Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a big difference.
