Honoring Genuine Chiefs

Honoring Genuine Chiefs

Anchor Roasting is proud to honor Chief Information Systems Technician Michelle Germain

Michelle, originally from New York City, will retire from the U. S. Navy 30 Sept. 2015, with 20 years and 6 months of active duty service! Upon retiring she will settle in Central Florida.

Michelle joined the Navy when she was 30 years old with a transfer from the Army. During her Army career she participated in Army ROTC and the Army Reserves (435th Transportation Unit). She completed Army Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ and Army Air Assault training in Fort Campbell, Ky.

After transferring to the Navy she attended 'A' school at Navy Training Center, San Diego in 1995. Her first duty station was FCDSSA (now NSWC PHD ECO) Dam Neck, VA. From there, in 1998, she transferred to USNS John Lenthall, an Oiler, and then USNS Sirius, a Supply ship, out Norfolk Naval Base and completed a Caribbean cruise and 2 Mediterranean cruises (second extended to 9 months in the eastern Mediterranean in support of 9/11 response) before transferring to CINCUSNAVEUR London, England in 2002.

Michelle transferred to COMUSNAVSO El Salvador in 2004 for a one year (14month) tour, then back to the United States to Pre-com the USS Kidd (DDG-100) home-ported in San Diego, CA. While onboard the USS Kidd, she completed a sail around from Mayport, Fl. to Galveston, TX, for Commissioning and then San Diego via the Panama Canal. During her time aboard Kidd she also did an IA Deployment to the Joint Task Forces at Guantanamo Bay Cuba, where she did Crypto-Ops and with my partner IT1 Knight. Together they scored 100% in the Army IG's COMSEC Inspection, the highest score of the entire IG Inspection!

She transferred to shore duty to the Naval Recruiting Orientation Unit (NORU) in Pensacola, FL as staff IT and AAA Driver Improvement Instructor. These duties permitted her the opportunity to achieve her Military Training Specialist (MTS) Certification. Easily, a favorite tour and the one that made selection to Chief Petty Officer a reality for her! (Thanks in no small part to Anchor Roasting Alum, Senior Schwantzenegger, who writes the best evaluations ever!).

After her tour at NORU , she transferred back to sea duty to the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) out of Everett, Washington and deployed for 10 months to the Western Pacific for Operations in the South China Seas, Arabian Gulf, and Red Sea. Near the end of her last deployment the ship sailed through the Suez Canal to Naples, Italy. This route made it possible for her to achieve complete Global circumnavigation by sea! Navy Bucket List Complete! SEMPER FORTIS!
