Honor Your Learnings

Honor Your Learnings

For Baha'is like myself, this evening is the beginning of the Month of Honor (Sharaf).

Honor is a virtue.

Over this College Break, I have been reflecting on alignment. I have been reflecting on what 2020 has taught me and what I choose to bring into 2021, not knowing what the year brings.

None of us knows what any year brings; even what any day might bring... that is life. But we can know and decide upon what we will bring to it.

Decisiveness is best grounded in honoring our learnings. It requires us to Honor that which we have experienced and learned in order to grow and go forward.

TWO QUESTIONS of HONOR

  • What has 2020 taught you constructively? Get clear and specific and feel the learning. Honor it. In this year, and for me... I am aware of the departure of Clayton Christensen, Sir Ken Robinson, Chief Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Chadwick Boseman... among others. Besides the re-learned and healthy sense of mortality and the importance of living this life (which I certainly chose to Honor), what about their lives and contribution can I Honor, and how? What lessons from my own life and living this year can I Honor? I think these are important questions, otherwise we simply get back on the wheel and peddle through another year. Asking these questions and deciding upon our answers in words and deeds moves us from the motions to the mission. We go from placeholder to purpose holder. So, what has 2020 taught you constructively?

  • Second, what will you bring to 2021, based on that learning and fully understanding that we know not what 2021 will bring? Based on my living and experiencing of life this year, what will be my words and deeds of decision? What am I truly resolved to do differently, honestly and courageously and purposefully ... understanding life is best lived... lived. As I finish off content for my new site over the next 24 hours (with launch early in '21 I might add), these questions and their answers have fundamental and vital implications. Going forward depends on how I Honor my past through what I have learned from it. So, again... what will you bring to 2021, based on that learning and fully understanding that we know not what 2021 will bring?

Honor the year passed by learning from it. Do not forget it or put it simply aside, somehow hoping for better in 2021. Ask these questions of yourself and Honor your life and those you love by learning, going forward.

As kind of a side not but not, this song became my fave of the year... and speaks to a spirit of Honor and reclamation... joyfully so I would suggest. Enjoy, and...

Happy New Year!

... peacepassion and prosperity.

Barry Lewis Green, aka The Unity Guy with Epic Engage

Lead, inspire, educate, and unite. Move forward together, stronger. My work is about bringing campuses, companies and communities together, moving forward stronger. I work with educators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders to do just that. My work is about character leadership and education and its role in helping individuals and organizations build a better world at school, work, business and community. I deliver on it through speaking, coaching and development in character leadership and education. My expertise is character leadership and education. I advance unity in diversity by moving the needle on leadership and education that is high character and results forging. I speak, teach, coach, facilitate, lead, write, sing, dance, cartoon and create on that. In 1980, Professor Rolf Hattenauer changed my life. A highly respected expert in Human Resource Management, he expected much of us and he believed much in us. He was an educator and leader of high character. He was extraordinary. To this day and beyond, I try my darnedest to honor his spirit with my own work. That is another story. But I hope I did him service here.
