November is a very meaningful and impactful month for my family. First off, my family heritage is one that was built upon serving this great nation. I could go as far back to Great Grandparents in World War 2, but I’ll start with my Grandpas who both answered the call to serve in Vietnam, and vowed to come back fighting even harder for the Country they loved.
Their passion alone to be servant leaders led their children to have the desire to serve and in a day in age when it may not have been the most popular choice. For our Vietnam Veterans had limited support, and yet, still, many were able to ingrain the impact and reason to serve and allow for a legacy, where their children chose to serve. I, personally, know the sacrifices made by not only my Grandpa’s, but by my Grandmothers. There were no accolades given to the military spouse during this time, and yet again, they raised their children to believe in service before self - this speaks volumes to the love and scope my family has for this Great Nation.
Fast forward now 40 plus years, my Grandfather’s are no longer with us – but the spirit and intent of their service lives on and deeply resonates with my family. As I sit here and type this very article I’m reminded of the love and sacrifices made by my entire family and I’m deeply humbled. For each generation has contributed to the greater cause and has left a legacy to be further carried.
As I thank each member of my family for their military service, I also thank them for the torch they continue to carry through our non-profit, Centurion Military Alliance. Though we have all shed our uniform, we haven’t skirted the responsibilities to continue to mentor, guide, and lead our brothers and sisters who are in transition. Which leads to why I’m beyond thankful…
From Veteran’s Day to Thanksgiving, I believe this month is one that is the somber reminder to look around and be thankful for all we have been given. Despite challenges, we live in the greatest nation – a nation that represents strength, encouragement, and fosters unity. A country that stands its ground and allows us a voice.
As a veteran, I’m thankful for all of the benefits I’ve received. I’m thankful that I have been able to pursue educational pathways in order to become vocationally proficient and that I’ve been greeted by a nation that has thanked me and allowed me the platform to rise within the civilian sector. Our growth becomes our legacy – and I’m thankful for my family that has armed me with the tools so that I may serve others and ultimately… leave a legacy.
With respect, honor, and gratitude - Thank you to our Nation’s Heroes – our Veterans! I’m thankful for all who have served, and I’m thankful Veterans Day is the same month as Thanksgiving – Remember to be thankful as you look around this month dedicated to thanks!
