Honor our Veterans this Military May

Did you know it’s Military May?

We take this month to celebrate and honor our United States Military. There are also some specific days you should know about. May 7 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day- the Friday just before Mother’s Day, where we stop to recognize how the spouses of our military veterans do so much to keep those home fires burning while their partner is serving our country.

And more commonly known, we have Memorial Day on May 31, which is not about the barbecues and beach vacations and welcoming summer. Still, it’s about honoring the fallen veterans who never made it home to their families. It’s about recognizing their ultimate sacrifice and appreciating what it means to live in a free country because they were willing to risk it all for us. 

EPM values our military, and we don’t just want to recognize them. We want to come together to give back to those who have given so much to us. The United States Military is the reason we are a free country and the freedoms they fight for every day are a gift to us for which they ask for little in return. Our organization sees the importance of strengthening communities. So we have programs to strengthen veteran homeownership. Still, we also have initiatives and events in-house that we hope can build our communities and help give back to our military families.

Honoring our Commitment to Veterans

Leashes Of Valor is a cause that is very close to our hearts. They’re a charity dedicated to training service dogs and pairing them with veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries and PTSD so they can lead richer, more independent lives. We started a Choose Kindness campaign in 2020 where a portion of every loan closed went to charities that we support, and Leashes of Valor is on that shortlist of incredible organizations.

Back in April- which coincidentally is the Month of the Military Child- we sponsored a virtual Paws for a Cause 5K run which encouraged people to run a 5k on their own time between Friday, April 16, and this past Friday, April 30. The run directly benefited Leashes of Valor, a cause we hold dear, and promoting the health and wellness initiatives that have been so fundamental to the EPM Way.

In whatever ways we can support our military families and communities, EPM is here. Our veterans are the reason we get to live the American Dream and access the American Gift. We are always about lives, not loans. And as we see more opportunities to recognize and empower the people who make up an essential part of our community, we will continue to find new ways to give back.
