In Honor of the One-page Portfolio

In Honor of the One-page Portfolio

There are a lot of statistics out there on HR and employer processes when they review your application materials. One I heard recently is the "8 second rule," the statistic that employers spend about 8 seconds on each resume and that only the most simple and clear materials will stand out.

Enter the single page online portfolio! One-page love, a collection of HTML, Wordpress templates says a one-page website "aims to provide the perfect amount of information for a user to make a decision and act upon it. This single page website has no additional pages and tries to remove as much 'clutter' as possible." By doing so, the site frames and focuses viewer's attention through minimalist design.

This week I wrote about Strikingly, a potential one-page website design disruptor, however, there are numerous ways of getting to one. Some of the first HTML pages operated with this structure. Simply creating an HTML document with a button bar at the top that anchors each link to a tag positioned at the header of each section will do the trick.

At the same time, viewers want a more dynamic, engaged experience with video, animated text or other features. To trial this approach, check out the free HTML and Wordpress templates from One Page, and then try stepping up to a paid solution.
