Hong Kong’s Year of the Dog Offers a Year of Festivals

Get ready for true razzle dazzle in Hong Kong as it celebrates the Chinese New Year starting February 16. The city will welcome the Year of the Dog with quite a howl – expect glitzy firework shows, its famous parade, flower markets, and plenty of festivities.

Here is some of what visitors can expect:

International Chinese New Year Parade: Held on February 16, both international and local performers entertain guests as colorful floats sail along Tsim Sha Tsui's main streets.

Hong Kong Chinese New Year Fireworks Extravaganza: Expect a magnificent display of pyrotechnics over Victoria Harbour. The Hong Kong Chinese New Year Fireworks Extravaganza, which lasts for 20 minutes, occurs annually on the second day of Chinese New Year, which will be on February 17. Both the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and Central HarbourFront offer some of the best vantage points to watch the show.

Great European Carnival: The Grand European Carnival transforms the Central Harbourfront Event Space into an outdoor amusement park. Partygoers can taste an array of global cuisine, ride on the swinging carousel, test their skills at a games booth, or watch The Great Circus of Europe.

Chinese New Year Raceday: On February 18, the Sha Tin Racecourse offers horseracing and live entertainment.

Che Kung Temple: The Che Kung Temple displays colorful spinning decorations to commemorate and celebrate the birthday of leader-turned-deity, Che Kung.

Flower Markets: Pop up flower markets decorate Victoria Park and Mongkok showcasing traditional New Year decorations, souvenirs, exotic flowers, and tasty treats.
