Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) Launches Industrial Informatics and Intelligence Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Research

A cross-disciplinary platform to cultivate digital talents
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) has recently announced the official establishment of the Industrial Informatics and Intelligence Institute (Triple-i Institute). This new institute aims to promote cross-hub, cross-campus, and cross-industry research in the field of industrial informatics and intelligence.
The Triple-i Institute is one of the key laboratories set up at HKUST (GZ). Professor Fugee Tsung, Founding Acting Dean of the HKUST (GZ) Information Hub, will serve as the Founding Director of the institute. Prof. Tsung is a renowned expert in industrial engineering and decision analysis, with numerous accolades to his name.
The Triple-i Institute seeks to empower industries to enhance their operations and achieve higher efficiency, profitability, and sustainability through digital and intelligence transformation. Its primary research areas include industrial big data, industrial intelligence, the industrial Internet of Things, and industrial carbon neutrality. Professors Fugee Tsung, Xiaowen Chu, Min Gao, and Jia Li will lead these focus areas, working alongside a team of elite scholars from various disciplines.

In addition to academic research, the Triple-i Institute aims to facilitate collaboration between academia and industry. The institute is in close contact with key companies in the Greater Bay Area to discuss potential cooperative projects. By fostering school-enterprise cooperation, HKUST (GZ) and its partnering companies can leverage their strengths, integrate production and education, optimize talent supply, and enhance talent and innovation-driven growth.

Currently, the Industrial Informatics and Intelligence Institute is hiring faculty and talent with backgrounds in disciplines such as industrial statistics and analysis, intelligent optimization, industrial and systems engineering, physics-based machine learning and applications, and systems, informatics, and control.
