“Honey, I Shrank My SELF!”

“Honey, I Shrank My SELF!”

You are sensitive, you read people and situations well, or at least you used to, but then you started doubting yourself. (Or maybe you never stopped?) And when a thought or a feeling or a sense or whatever it is that comes to you, comes, you don’t actually speak up and share that read.

You shrink back from trusting yourself and using your voice.

You’re shrinking instead of growing.

Or, if you do share your take on things, you throw in so many disclaimers that it is as if you never said anything at all!

Does this describe you?

Or does this describe some of your more in-touch team members?

You know, those team members you have done everything in your power to encourage to speak up, other than speaking up for them at every single meeting where you think they might just have a different take on things.

Whether you have your own business—or you treat the business you are actively engaged in as if it were your own, bringing all the dedication you can to your work—how would you or your team feel if you—and they—recognized, developed, and then trusted intuition?

Which, by the way, doesn’t mean relying solely on intuition. Except sometimes, when it does.

I know. I just contradicted myself. But—

If you hear, in your head, “Call so-and-so now” or “Get out now!” or get the feeling or the knowing or suddenly notice a name in your contacts that almost glows, at least for a moment, it might be best to not concern yourself with collecting more data but, instead, call so-and-so or get out now.

Otherwise, intuitive input, yours or theirs, can be a valuable part of the decision-making equation.

Let’s chat. You can come to me, individually, and we can discover how your intuition works. Once we know that, we can work together to develop it further, get past the doubts, find your authentic voice, and then use it.

Or you can have me present Shine: the Program in Intuition for Unconventional Leaders to you and your team.

Because leaders who actually encourage intuition, again, yours or your team’s, while unconventional at one time, are now on the rise. Because innovation and leadership both are better with strong, collaborative, creative voices. Voices that share their intuitive read of the people and situations they encounter, voices that are powerful, and spirits that don’t shrink at the chance to make—or receive—a bit of unconventional contribution.

Stop shrinking. Learn how to discern the way your intuition works, what senses it uses, how to translate, and then the best ways to express your intuition.

Hint: don’t use the word “feel.” It doesn’t fly. Say, “My sense is,” or “I think one piece of information we might need,” or “the question that comes,” or any way to contribute the “soft skill” perspective without undermining yourself with your choice of words.

FRAN GALLAHER thanks for the encouragement to pay attention to my intuition as well as the advice of switching out “I feel” with “I sense “. Is it because “feel” is viewed as too feminine?

I love this FRAN GALLAHER! I agree with "go with your gut." If something pops in your mind, there is usually a really good reason - do a little research or pick up the phone and make that call! I also appreciate the verbiage you recommended using.
