Honey can be used not only internally to treat ailments, but also externally in a number of diseases that affect the skin and mucous membranes, due to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, emollient and healing effect. These qualities of various varieties of honey have been successfully exploited over time in cosmetics and dermato-cosmetology.
In apitherapy, we use honey to treat ailments such as acne, nipple cracks, minor burns, eczema, boils, wounds, etc. An important area is the use of honey in the treatment of hard to heal wounds, bedsores and varicose ulcers. In the treatment of these diseases, honey acts by its antibacterial effect and by forming a viscous barrier that prevents fluid loss. Honey contains a number of enzymes that help heal by forming new tissue, absorbs pus and thus cleanses the wound, reduces pain, local irritation and removes the unpleasant odor specific to these difficult-to-treat conditions.
In cosmetics, honey is part of various cosmetic masks, along with other natural products, being used for millennia to regenerate the skin and veneers (hair, nails).
