Be honest. Are your goals for 2019 the same as 2018?

This may be an uncomfortable truth.
Each year we set our goals with lots of good intentions.
And, then if we are being honest, we get busy.
We get distracted.
And before we know it, another year goes by.
And those goals seem just as far away.
And, low and behold, we set the same goals again for the next year.
Same goals. Different year. It’s a trap we have all fallen into.
Another uncomfortable truth is this: We are much better at making resolutions that we are at keeping them.
(80% of us fail to meet them).
We are also much better at making goals than at meeting them.
“Anyone who isn’t embarrassed by who they were last year probably isn’t learning enough.” Alain de Botton,
How to Make Next Year Different?
This is the key question you have to ask yourself. Here are 3 tips for change. They are simple enough. But they work.
1, Know the destination.
You need to be clear.
Most people know when they go to a train station, where they want to go to. Almost 100%. But most people can’t say the same of their career, their business or even their life. And because we have no clear goal, we end up in Slough. And then we say to ourselves with surprise: This isn’t Dublin.
A small caveat to the Mayor of Slough. There is nothing wrong with Slough. But my point is this, most people that end up in the place they didn't plan on never had a destination in mind.
2, Know how you will feel when you get there.
Change needs motivation.
The motivation is that you want to feel happier, healthier or have more fun. The problem with lots of goals is they talk about being 30% this or 40% that. Numbers tend to leave us cold.
The more emotion the goal can be given, the more subconsciously shifting it will be for you. The goal needs to include your life view and your work view. You want all parts of your life to improve.
You have to imagine how you would feel if you already had achieved what you wanted. How you feel is the fuel to make the change to happen.
3, Plan
You can’t outsource change.
You have to do something. You have to have a specific start time. And start. Actually, start. You stop talking. You start. It's a moment.
New Year’s Resolutions are proven to have an 80% failure rate. Not great odds. But working in 90-day slots is helpful. It sounds do-able.
Climb easy mountains in the beginning.
Why Do Breakthrough 3-day event is so powerful?
I have asked myself this question many times. Why is the 3 day Do Breakthrough so powerful? It had a deep and profound effect on all that attended. And, I will also say all those who spoke too. I was reading something from Benjamin Hardy which helped me understand its power:
The Importance of Peak Experiences
“Peak experiences as rare, exciting, oceanic, deeply moving, exhilarating, elevating experiences that generate an advanced form of perceiving reality, and are even mystic and magical in their effect upon the experimenter.” — Abraham Maslow
Peak experiences are those moments where your soul is stretched such that it cannot go back to its prior dimensions.
Peak experiences, by nature, are novel and new. They involve experiencing or seeing the world in a new way.
In order for you to have a peak experience, you need to be open to new experiences. You need to be humble.
Peak experiences are more likely to happen outside of your comfort zone. They generally involve “experiential” learning.
Creating peak experiences is how you change the trajectory of your life. They are those pivotal moments that are so meaningful that they serve as check-points — core memories — directing your future path.
Peak experiences don’t need to be rare. They are only as rare as your courage is exercised. If you begin being courageous daily, you’ll start having more peak experiences.
As you have more peak experiences, your emotional wellbeing will increase, and thus, your imagination and ability to direct and create your future will expand.
Put simply, you can and must create experiences that change your identity. As your identity changes, your future will change. Einstein wisely said, “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” Change can only happen by imagining a different world, and then courageously seeking new and expansive experiences.
Change happens as you learn and expand your world.
Should I attend Do Breakthrough?
If you would like to say goodbye to the old you, this is indeed for you.
I can't promise it will be easy. If it was easy, you would have changed by now. But, I can say this, it will start a new chapter for you.
Old habits, old ways of thinking, they will need new powerful techniques to stop them. Our research has found them. And, they are easy to apply to your life. And, they work. But, what I can say is this, it will be worth it.
There are now only 20 places left. And come to the end of January all the places will be long gone So, grab one while they are still available. This 3-day seminar only takes place once a year.
I hope you make the decision to join us. And indeed, it is a decision. A decision that says, it's time to invest in 'me'.

6 年Love that quote by Alain de Botton in this article : “Anyone who isn’t embarrassed by who they were last year probably isn’t learning enough.” It's made me appreciate why I feel the way I do sometimes when I look back on my own particular journey
